David Hess - Opening season in minorsThe Rays reassigned Hess to their minor-league camp Monday.
ImpactBefore re-signing with the Rays on a minor-league deal in November, Hess revealed that he underwent chemotherapy earlier in the offseason to address a cancerous tumor in his chest. Fortunately, Hess received full medical clearance to resume his career in January and hasn't faced any restrictions upon reporting to spring training. He'll likely open the season at Triple-A Durham, but it's unclear if the Rays plan on having Hess serve as a starter or reliever.

David McKay - Heads to MiLB campThe Rays reassigned McKay to their minor-league camp Monday.
ImpactMcKay is expected to begin the season as a member of the Triple-A Durham bullpen. He previously made 26 relief appearances at the big-league level between stops with the Mariners and Tigers across the 2019 and 2020 campaigns, logging a 6.08 ERA.

Aaron Slegers - Cut from big-league campThe Rays reassigned Slegers to minor-league camp Monday.
ImpactSlegers was one of 11 players optioned or reassigned Monday as the Rays pare down their big-league camp group ahead of Opening Day. Before inking a two-year, minor-league deal with Tampa Bay last August, the 29-year-old made 29 relief appearances for the Angels in 2021. Over 31 innings at the big-league level, he posted a 6.97 ERA and 1.87 WHIP.

Tommy Romero - Optioned to Triple-ARomero (triceps) was optioned to Triple-A Durham on Monday, Neil Solondz of the Rays Radio Network reports.
ImpactRomero worked with the major-league club early in spring training but sustained a right tricep contusion when he was struck by a comebacker during his lone Grapefruit League appearance. He'll report to Triple-A Durham to begin the year, and it wouldn't be surprising to see him available once the regular season gets underway.
MARCH 28, 2022ROTOWIRE
Tyler Thornburg - Continues perfect springThornburg (elbow) tossed 1.2 perfect innings Monday in his relief appearance during Monday's Grapefruit League game against the Blue Jays.
ImpactThough he's attending camp as a non-roster invitee, Thornburg still looks to be in the mix for a spot in Atlanta's Opening Day bullpen. After missing all of the 2021 season while recovering from Tommy John surgery, Thornburg has looked sharp over his first three appearances of the spring. He's been perfect through 4.1 innings of Grapefruit League play while striking out three batters.

Seth Elledge - Latches on with AtlantaElledge was released by the Cardinals on Friday and signed a minor-league contract with the Braves on Monday, Katie Woo of The Athletic reports.
ImpactElledge struggled in 2021 with Triple-A Memphis, posting a 6.56 ERA and 1.88 WHIP across 35.2 innings. He also saw 11.2 innings with the Cardinals with a 4.63 ERA, 1.71 WHIP and 11:7 K:BB. The right-hander will get a look with Atlanta, though he'll likely begin the season in the minors.
MARCH 28, 2022ROTOWIRE
Jacob Webb - Bid for Opening Day roster endsAtlanta optioned Webb to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
ImpactOne of Atlanta's more impressive relievers in the 2019 and 2020 seasons, Webb's performance took a major step back during the team's run to the World Series in 2021. He worked almost exclusively in low-leverage spots last season, accruing one save and no holds over 34 appearances while logging a 4.19 ERA and 1.51 WHIP. With Atlanta improving its relief ranks this offseason with the pickups of Kenley Jansen and Collin McHugh, the team had no room in its Opening Day bullpen for Webb.
