Back with Padres Davis signed a minor-league contract with the Padres on Monday, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Davis elected free agency Saturday after being designated for assignment by San Diego, but he'll return to the team on a minor-league deal. The 31-year-old should be expected to report to Triple-A El Paso, where he's logged a 3.10 ERA across 29.0 innings this season.

Impact Davis has fewer than three years of MLB service time, but because he had previously been outrighted off a 40-man roster earlier in his career, he had the ability to reject an assignment to the minors in lieu of free agency. The 31-year-old southpaw shouldn't have much trouble landing elsewhere on a minor-league deal after turning in a 3.10 ERA over 29 innings for El Paso in the hitter-friendly Pacific Coast League before struggling in his seven innings with the Padres (9.00 ERA, 1.57 WHIP, 6:5 K:BB).

Impact A veteran of 136 career appearances in the majors, Davis failed to gain any momentum for a call-up to Houston in 2023 after struggling mightily at Triple-A Sugar Land. Over his 20 relief outings at Sugar Land spanning 25.2 innings, Davis pitched to an 11.22 ERA and walked more batters (38) than he struck out (34).
