Recovering from core-muscle surgery Hays underwent a procedure earlier in the offseason to repair his core, but he's expected to be ready for spring training without any restrictions, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun... Impact Durability has been an issue for Hays in the past, but he managed to play a career-high 131 games in 2021, slashing .256/.308/.461 with 22 home runs, four stolen bases, 71 RBI and 73 runs across 529 plate appearances. He spent one brief stint on the injured list due to a hamstring issue, but Hays also appears to have played through a core-muscle injury down the stretch. Fortunately, the timing of the procedure means Hays should be back to full strength by the spring, setting him up to open the 2022 campaign in an everyday role in the corner outfield.
