Four earned runs with zero K's Falter did not factor into the decision in Sunday's loss to the Yankees, allowing four earned runs on four hits and three walks in three innings. He failed to record a strikeout.

Impact Falter's first two pitches of the contest were both laced for extra-base hits -- a double by Gleyber Torres and a two-run shot by Trent Grisham. Falter never fully recovered, allowing two more runs in the third inning before being pulled for good after 62 pitches. The 27-year-old Falter started a career-high 28 games for the Pirates in 2024, finishing with a respectable 4.43 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 97:45 K:BB in 142.1 innings. Although the southpaw showed improvement from previous seasons, his paltry 6.3 K/9 (eighth percentile) makes him a low-upside fantasy option for the foreseeable future.

Impact Falter was excellent Tuesday, holding the Marlins to just a pair of singles en route to a second straight victory and eighth on the season. The scoreless effort also marked Falter's first quality start since June 18 -- he hadn't gone more than 5.2 innings in any of his previous 10 outings, posting a 5.79 ERA in that span. Impact Falter's outing did not begin well as he allowed three runs in the first, capped by a two-run homer by Andres Chaparro. Falter then settled down, allowing no more runs through his final four innings while the anemic Pirates' offense scored six to put him in position for his seventh win. Falter progressively improved throughout his start, retiring the Nationals in order for the first time in the fifth to close out his outing on a high note. Despite setting a new career-high with his seventh win, the nine batters to reach base marked the fifth straight start Falter has allowed at least eight baserunners while pitching fewer than six innings, holding a 6.85 ERA and 1.82 WHIP during that stretch. His next start is currently slated to take place in Pittsburgh against the Marlins.
