Bubba Thompson - MLB debut on tapThe Rangers selected Thompson's contract from Triple-A Round Rock on Thursday, Evan Grant of The Dallas Morning News reports. He'll start in left field and bat ninth in his MLB deb...
ImpactThompson's poor plate approach (5.9 percent walk rate at Triple-A) has slowed his ascent to the big leagues and leads to questions about his ability to stick as a regular at the game's top level, but there's no denying that the 24-year-old possesses a tantalizing power/speed skill set. He's put those tools on full display for Round Rock this season, banging out 29 extra-base hits while going a 49-for-52 on stolen-base attempts over 375 plate appearances. The speed upside in particular will make righty-hitting Thompson an intriguing flier in deeper mixed leagues, especially if he can avoid a short-side platoon role. He'll be making his first career start against a righty (Johnny Cueto), perhaps hinting that Thompson may get at least a cursory look as a full-time player.

Jorge Mateo - Logs another stealMateo went 0-for-3 with a walk, a stolen base and a run scored in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
ImpactTwo of the top three base-stealers play for Baltimore, with Mateo (26) and Cedric Mullins (23) trailing only Miami's Jon Berti's (groin) major-league-leading 28. In his last 11 games, Mateo's provided a more well-rounded line with three home runs, four steals, eight RBI and eight runs scored. He's batted .297 in that span to lift his season average to .216 through 97 contests overall.

Robinson Chirinos - Emerges from slumpChirinos went 3-for-4 with a solo home run and an additional RBI in Wednesday's 6-3 win over the Rangers.
ImpactChirinos appeared in just eight games in July, going 2-for-22 with 10 strikeouts for the month. He's already off to a better start in August with a three-hit performance and his first homer since May 28. The backup catcher is slashing .168/.256/.282 with three long balls, 17 RBI, eight runs scored, a stolen base and eight doubles in 169 plate appearances this year. Even with a good stretch of hitting, Chirinos is unlikely to vulture away much of Adley Rutschman's playing time.

Cionel Pérez - Earns sixth winPerez (6-1) struck out one without allowing a baserunner in 1.1 innings to earn the win Wednesday over the Rangers.
ImpactPerez got the last out of the seventh inning and also pitched the eighth without trouble. He was in the game as the Orioles rallied ahead, to the point that a save situation didn't arise. The southpaw is on a seven-inning scoreless streak with an 8:4 K:BB in his last seven appearances, and he'll likely have some closing opportunities since Jorge Lopez was traded to the Twins on Tuesday. Perez owns a sharp 1.21 ERA with a 1.21 WHIP and 35:15 K:BB, one save and 15 holds through 37.1 innings this season. Felix Bautista and Dillon Tate are also in the mix in what's likely to be a matchup-based closing committee for the last two months of the season.

José Leclerc - Takes lossLeclerc (0-1) suffered the loss Thursday, allowing two runs on two hits and one walk while striking out one over 1.2 innings against the Orioles.
ImpactLeclerc set down the first four batters faced, but he gave up a four-pitch walk with two outs in the eighth that set off a Baltimore rally. The base on balls has been his bugaboo over the years, and Leclerc has a 4.2 BB/9 rate since returning to the majors from Tommy John surgery in June. The right-hander has worked himself into a high-leverage, late-inning role out and pitched well after a rough re-entry to the majors.
