Inks minors deal with San Diego Cederlind signed a minor-league contract Thursday with the Padres, Jason Mackey of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reports.

Impact Cederlind was released by the Pirates at the end of May, just as he completed his recovery from a lingering elbow injury. The 27-year-old right-hander will report to the Triple-A affiliate of the Padres in El Paso. He hasn't appeared in a major-league game since the COVID-affected 2020 campaign.

Released by Pittsburgh Cederlind was released by the Pirates on Wednesday, Justice delos Santos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Cederlind is recovered from the elbow complications that caused him to miss the first several weeks of the minor-league season, but the Pirates have now moved on from the 27-year-old right-hander shortly after activating him from the Triple-A injured list. He has made only five career appearances at the MLB level, and those were all during the COVID-affected 2020 campaign.

Back in action at Triple-A Triple-A Indianapolis reinstated Cederlind (elbow) from its 7-day injured list Tuesday.

Impact Cederlind has been cleared to make his 2023 debut for the Triple-A club after his start to the season was delayed while he continued to recover from August surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow. The right-hander wasn't sharp over his five rehab appearances at Single-A Bradenton, as he yielded nine earned runs on six hits and six walks over six innings.

Impact Cederlind will be making his first appearances since he underwent follow-up surgery this past August to remove loose bodies from his right elbow after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March of 2021. The right-hander will need to make several rehab appearances before he's ready to contribute, and the Pirates will need to add him to the 40-man roster if they deem him worthy of a promotion this summer.

Impact After being activated from the 60-day injured list and moved off the Pirates' 40-man roster in November, Cederlind accepted an outright assignment to minor-league camp. He's seemingly healthy again after undergoing Tommy John surgery in March 2021 and then requiring a follow-up surgery this past August to remove loose bodies from his right elbow, but because he hasn't pitched at any level since 2020, Cederlind didn't receive an invitation to big-league spring training. Cederlind will have to prove he's healthy and can pitch effectively at Triple-A Indianapolis early on during the upcoming season before he merits consideration for a call-up to the big club.
