Impact Snell is finally ready to make his 2022 debut for the Padres after he was scratched ahead of what would have been his first start of the season April 10 due to left adductor tightness. The injury ultimately forced an extended trip to the IL, but Snell looks to be healthy again after recently completing a three-start minor-league rehab assignment. He stretched out to five innings and 59 pitches in his final minor-league outing May 10, so Snell should be capable of offering the Padres a decent amount of length Wednesday.

Solid again in third rehab start Snell completed five innings for Triple-A El Paso on Tuesday, allowing one run on three hits and no walks while striking out seven to earn the win.
Impact In his third minor-league rehab appearance -- and first at the Triple-A level -- Snell extended to five frames and tossed 59 pitches. The latter number was seven pitches fewer than he threw in his previous rehab outing, but Snell was more effective Tuesday in limiting his opponent to just one run. The Padres haven't yet announced the next step for the left-hander, though manager Bob Melvin has suggested that this was likely his final rehab start, per Jeff Sanders of The San Diego Union-Tribune.

Impact With Snell set to continue his rehab assignment, the Padres will temporarily delay making any changes to their six-man rotation, which will allow back-end arms MacKenzie Gore and Nick Martinez to pick up at least one more start. Considering that Snell built up to four innings and 66 pitches in his last rehab start May 4, he shouldn't face any major restrictions with his workload when he makes his return from the 10-day injured list next week for his 2022 debut with the big club. Assuming he comes out of Tuesday's outing with El Paso with no setbacks, Snell could be brought back from the IL to start as early as Sunday's game in Atlanta, though it's possible the Padres wait until next week's series in Philadelphia to add him back into the rotation.
