Luis Urías - Gaining traction at keystone Urias will start at second base and bat eighth Monday against the Rangers.
Impact Urias will stick in the lineup for the sixth time in seven games and looks to have usurped Pablo Reyes as the Red Sox's preferred option at the keystone. The 26-year-old hasn't seemed to earn the extra playing time based on his performance, however; he's slashing just .185/.313/.259 with a 34.4 percent strikeout rate thus far in September.

Wilyer Abreu - On bench against lefty Abreu is out of the lineup for Monday's game against the Rangers.
Impact The lefty-hitting Abreu will hit the bench for the second game in a row while the Red Sox oppose another southpaw (Jordan Montgomery) in the series opener in Arlington. The righty-hitting Ceddanne Rafaela will enter the starting nine in his stead, and he and Abreu seem likely to form a platoon in center field and at the leadoff spot for the duration of the season.

Impact The righty-hitting Reyes will stick in the lineup against a lefty (Jordan Montgomery), but he had sat out on each of the last three occasions in which the Red Sox faced off against right-handed pitching. The Red Sox have seemingly moved Reyes into a utility role while Luis Urias has been prioritized at second base of late.

Impact He'll give way to Connor Wong behind the dish as Boston opens a three-game set in Texas. McGuire and Wong have been splitting work at catcher in relatively equitable fashion thus far in September, with the former getting seven starts to the latter's 10. With a .154/.241/.231 slash line so far this month, McGuire hasn't made a compelling case to push for a larger share of the playing time.

Impact Yoshida has not opened a game against a left-handed starter since Aug. 17, and with Boston facing a southpaw for the second time is as many games, Yoshida will work as a reserve for a second straight day.

Kaleb Ort - Starts up rehab assignment Ort (elbow) began a rehab assignment Saturday with Triple-A Worcester, striking out one batter over a perfect inning of relief.
Impact Ort has resided on the injured list since July 7 with right elbow inflammation, but he looks like he'll have a chance to rejoin the Boston bullpen before the regular season comes to a close. Prior to being shut down with the injury, Ort posted a 6.26 ERA and 1.57 WHIP in 23 innings. If reinstated, Ort will likely be relegated to low-leverage work out of the bullpen.

Bobby Dalbec - Starts at first base Dalbec started at first base and went 1-for-3 in Sunday's 3-2 loss to Toronto.
Impact Dalbec was summoned from Triple-A Worcester after Boston placed Triston Casas (shoulder) on the injured list. Dalbec mashed for the WooSox, slugging .557 with 33 home runs and 80 RBI over 114 games. Hitting Triple-A pitching, however, has never been the issue. The 28-year-old maintains a .232/.298/.452 slash line over 915 plate appearances in the majors. While Dalbec could get regular work in the final weeks of the season, he does not have a path to a regular gig in 2024.
