Triston Casas - Scratched with tooth infection Casas was scratched from the lineup for Saturday's game against the Yankees with an infected tooth, Chris Cotillo of The Springfield Republican reports.

Impact The Red Sox have yet to announce a timeline for Casas' return, but if it's an issue that can be fixed with routine dental work, he's likely not looking at a long absence. Justin Turner will shift from designated hitter to first base in Casas' absence, with Adam Duvall entering the lineup as the DH.

The slump appears to have cost him the leadoff role against right-handers, as Alex Verdugo led off for the third consecutive game against a righty starter. Red Sox manager Alex Cora told Chris Cotillo of MassLive.com that he's spoken with the outfielder, who recently posted two Instagram stories that seemed to reference recurring struggles. One of those stories was captioned "falling back into that place I fought so hard to get out of." Duran has looked like a different hitter in 2023 and rebounded every time he hit a slump.

Impact Houck was sharp in his third and final rehab start Wednesday, firing four scoreless innings and allowing one hit and no walks while striking out four. He threw 59 pitches Wednesday, which means the Red Sox may have him on a limited pitch count when he starts against Astros.
