Named Opening Day starter Keller will start Opening Day against the Rangers on April 1, Josh Vernier of 610 Sports reports.

Impact Keller avoided arbitration with the Royals in January, and he'll take the mound for Kansas City to begin the regular season in the second Opening Day start of his career. The right-hander has made three Cactus League starts this spring, allowing eight runs (six earned) on 15 hits and seven walks while striking out six over 9.1 innings.

Impact Keller isn't a spectacular starting pitcher, but he has proven to be a capable rotation stalwart. The 25-year-old righty has consistently beaten deserved ERA estimators. He logged a 2.47 ERA in nine starts last year, but his subpar 16.3 percent strikeout rate contributed to a 3.43 FIP. Keller's career 52.1 percent groundball rate helps him to get by without the ability to miss bats at a high clip.

He coughed up two homers to the lefty slugger, one in the first inning and another in the sixth, accounting for all five of Milwaukee's runs. Impact Keller didn't overpower the Pirates but was able to pepper the strike zone as 73 of his 111 pitches were strikes. It was another strong effort for Keller, as he's now allowed one or fewer earned runs in five of his seven outings this season. He has had two fairly big missteps in his remaining starts, but overall he has a tremendous 2.06 ERA with a more middling 26:14 K:BB across 43.2 frames. Keller's next turn through the rotation is currently projected to come Sunday at Milwaukee.
