Bounces back with dominant effort Woodruff (8-7) earned the win over the Reds on Wednesday after throwing six shutout innings while allowing just four hits and striking out 10.
Impact Woodruff rebounded extremely well from arguably his worst start of the season with one of his more effective outings of the year. The 28-year-old was blistered by the Cardinals for six runs over five innings last week but the closest the Reds came to scoring against him was in the opening inning after a hit batter and a single put two runners on with nobody out. Woodruff had his stuff working really well, as he induced 18 whiffs and struck out 10 hitters for the first time since May 30. He now owns a 2.38 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and 177:37 K:BB over 151.1 innings and tentatively lines up for a meeting against the Giants next week in a battle between two of the best clubs in baseball.

Impact Woodruff initially appeared to have suffered a injury to his leg when he was struck by a Andrew Romine line drive that he corralled and tossed to first base for the final out in the bottom of the third. However, no physical issue was behind Woodruff's removal, and Brewers manager Craig Counsell may have just elected to end the All-Star right-hander's day early due to his poor control (74 pitches, 46 strikes). Given that Woodruff was pitching on four days' rest for only the second time all season due to Milwaukee having to shorten its rotation from six to five men with Eric Lauer and Adrian Houser on the COVID-19 injured list, the Brewers may have had additional incentive to pull Woodruff from the contest. He'll tentatively line up to make his next start in the Brewers' series in St. Louis next week.
