DFA'd by Brewers Holt was designated for assignment by the Brewers on Saturday.
Impact Holt saw inconsistent playing time with the Brewers this season and struggled at the plate when he did play. Over 36 plate appearances in 2020, hold hit .100 with one RBI and nine strikeouts. The 32-year-old carries value through his versatile defensive abilities, but it's unclear whether he'll find a new destination after being cast off the 40-man roster. Jace Peterson's contract was selected in a corresponding move. Manager Craig Counsell said that he doesn't expect Holt to remain in the organization if he clears waivers, Adam McCalvy of MLB.com reports.

Impact Holt suffered a sprained ankle in pregame warmups prior to Friday's season opener, but manager Craig Counsell said Monday that he's nearing a return. The 32-year-old could carve out a fair amount of playing time due to his defensive versatility. He appeared in 87 games with the Red Sox last season, slashing .297/.369/.402 with three home runs and 31 RBI.
