Impact Manager Gabe Kapler often uses the modern approach to the ninth inning, deploying a committee instead of having one designated closer. Jake McGee and Tyler Rogers will also get work in late-inning situations this season, but Doval is less of a known quantity. The 24-year-old right-hander averaged 98.7 mph on his fastball last season while posting a 3.00 ERA, 1.04 WHIP and 37:9 K:BB across 27 innings. His hard-throwing ways are well-suited to closing games out even if he's the least experienced of the three relievers most likely to earn saves for the Giants.

Impact Doval relieved Scott Kazmir with bases loaded and nobody out in the fifth and was able to escape without any damage done to put himself in line for the win. He got Manny Machado to strike out before inducing an inning-ending 6-4-3 double play from Tommy Pham. The 23-year-old righty has 11 straight scoreless outings and has picked up three wins this month. For the year, Doval owns a 3.86 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 26:9 K:BB over 21 innings.
