Shuts down Cubs Rodon (9-6) earned the win during Sunday's 4-0 shutout of the Cubs, allowing two hits while striking out 10 in seven scoreless innings.
Impact In what may have been a final audition prior to Tuesday's trade deadline, Rodon completely shut down Chicago's offense -- he permitted singles in the first and fourth with neither baserunner making it past first base -- and retired the final 10 batters he faced, five via strikeout. The hard-throwing lefty fired 64 of 98 pitches for strikes with 15 of the swinging variety, and he concludes July with 53 strikeouts in six starts to pull within four of MLB leader Gerrit Cole at 158 on the season. If Rodon remains a Giant, he's slated to take the mound again next weekend against Oakland.

Impact Rodon pitched well Tuesday -- surrendering only six baserunners -- but was stung by the home run, permitting a Sergio Alcantara two-run shot in the second inning and a Christian Walker three-run homer in the third. Despite the loss, Rodon struck out at least seven batters for the fifth straight start and has now fanned 43 batters across 30 frames during the span. The 29-year-old carries a 3.18 ERA and 1.12 WHIP into his next start, currently lined up for Sunday Night Baseball against the Cubs.

Impact For the ninth time in 17 starts, Rodon limited the opposition to one or fewer runs. This was the third complete game of his career, and his first since his no hitter on April 14, 2021. The southpaw dialed up double-digit strikeouts for the fourth time this year, and he threw 79 of 112 pitches for strikes. He's pitched to an excellent 2.70 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 124:32 K:BB through 100 innings. Rodon will likely get one more start before the All-Star break, which is currently projected as a home game versus the Brewers next week.
