Carlos Santana plays the hero again as Mariners sweep Blue Jays for eighth consecutive win SEATTLE — When the Mariners acquired Carlos Santana on June 27 from the Royals, it seemed like a move made out of desperation.

Homers twice in Sunday's win Santana went 2-for-3 with two home runs, three RBI, three runs scored and a hit-by-pitch in Sunday's 6-5 win over the Blue Jays.

Impact Santana's two blasts were both key hits -- his second-inning solo shot tied the game at 1-1, and he put the Mariners ahead for good with a two-run homer in the eighth. He's hit safely in six of his last eight games, going 10-for-27 (.370) with three homers, six RBI and eight runs scored in that span. In 64 contests between Seattle and Kansas City, Santana owns a .228/.359/.377 slash line with seven long balls, 27 RBI, 26 runs scored and 11 doubles, though it certainly looks like he's more comfortable with the Mariners since he was traded June 27.

Since he was traded from the Royals on June 27, Santana is 9-for-36 (.250) with a homer, three RBI, six runs scored and a 7:10 BB:K across 11 games as a Mariner. He's slashing .222/.353/.344 with five long balls, 24 RBI, 23 runs scored and 11 doubles in 63 contests overall in 2022. While Ty France (elbow) has been back for three games, he's served as the designated hitter each time, and Santana continues to draw starts at first base.

Santana has been quite the find offensively for Seattle thus far, producing a trio of two-hit tallies in the last five games and generating a solid .276 average and stellar .400 on-base percentage over the 35 plate appearances he's logged across his first nine contests with the team.
