Impact Kuhl started in 14 of 28 appearances for Pittsburgh in 2021 and had a 4.82 ERA, 1.43 WHIP an 75:42 K:BB across 80.1 innings. The 29-year-old has been unable to put it all together at the big-league level and will now look to continue his career elsewhere.

Effective against Cubs Kuhl allowed one hit in a scoreless relief inning of Wednesday's 3-2 loss to the Cubs. He struck out one batter.
Impact The 29-year-old has one season of control left with Pittsburgh after 2021. Since returning from COVID-19 in late August, the organization has deployed him as a reliever for the first time. On Tuesday he threw eight of 11 pitches for strikes in a rare, quiet outing. He hasn't looked particularly impressive out of the bullpen, surrendering runs in five of 13 appearances while registering a 7.30 ERA in 12.1 innings. Prior to missing time, Kuhl compiled a 2.84 ERA in his last seven starts covering 38 innings. That said, the team has given no indication of its usage for the righty in 2022 or even if it will keep him on the roster.

Blows save, takes loss Kuhl (5-7) allowed two runs (one earned) in Sunday's loss to Miami. He was given a loss and blew a save chance.
Impact Kuhl entered a 5-4 game in the 10th inning and served up a walkoff two-run shot to Lewin Diaz before he was able to record an out. He's blown two save opportunities this month and he saw his ERA climb to 4.83. Since moving to the bullpen last month, Kuhl has given up eight earned runs over 9.1 innings (7.71 ERA) with an 11:3 K:BB.

However, the right-hander didn't make any rehab appearances before he rejoined the Pirates, so he'll be utilized in a bullpen role as he eases his way back into action.
