Kyle Hendricks - Roughed up in no-decision Hendricks escaped with a no-decision in Wednesday's win against the Pirates, allowing six earned runs on eight hits and three walks in 1.2 innings. He struck out two.
Impact Hendricks never found his footing in this one, surrendering a solo home run to Bryan Reynolds in the opening frame before completely unraveling in the second, yielding an additional five earned runs on three extra-base hits before mercifully being pulled with two runners on and two out in the inning. Fortunately for Hendricks, those two runners were stranded and the Cubs rallied to a 14-10 victory, keeping Hendricks record at 3-10. The 34-year-old veteran has been a shell of his former self this season, registering an ugly 6.75 ERA, 1.53 WHIP and 6.0 K/9 (fourth percentile) in 102.2 innings. Hendricks next start is slated to be a rematch with Pittsburgh early next week.

Ethan Roberts - Exits appearance with injury Robert was removed from an appearance versus the Pirates on Wednesday in the fourth inning with an apparent injury, Meghan Montemurro of the Chicago Tribune reports.
Impact Roberts retired the final batter in the bottom of the second inning and got through a scoreless third inning. However, he gave up a home run, hit a batter with a pitch and surrendered a single in the fourth before being visited by the trainer and exiting the field. It's not clear what injury he's dealing with, but the Cubs should provide an update soon. Roberts was charged with two runs over 1.1 frames before being lifted.

Impact On the shelf since June 11 with a stress reaction in his neck, Brown resumed throwing shortly after landing on the IL, but he's been shut down on two occasions since that while continuing to experience lingering discomfort. The rookie right-hander remains at the Cubs' complex in Arizona for his rehab program, but he's not yet doing much pitching work and doesn't look like he'll be able to complete a throwing progression within the next month to put himself in position to join Chicago even as a relief option late in the season. Brown generated a 3.58 ERA, 1.08 WHIP and 64:19 K:BB over 55.1 innings spanning 15 appearances (eight starts) this season prior to suffering the injury. He should be ready to go for spring training and will have a chance to stake a claim to a rotation spot.

Impact It will be Wesneski's first time facing hitters since he went down with a right forearm strain more than a month ago. The right-hander would appear to be closing in on a rehab assignment, with a return in early September likely.
