Nick Madrigal - Hits first spring home runMadrigal (leg) went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Monday's Cactus League game against the White Sox.
ImpactMadrigal missed Cactus League games Friday and Saturday due to leg fatigue. He appeared in an intrasquad scrimmage Sunday, and it was good to see him return to regular action Monday and hit his first home run this spring. The 25-year-old has a strong .921 OPS in Cactus League play and should be ready for a good year after missing a significant chunk of the 2021 season due to proximal tendon tears in his right hamstring. The Cubs will likely limit his playing time in the early going, however, as he makes his way back following surgery.

ImpactSimmons is not expected to be ready for Opening Day, so Hoerner figures to be the primary shortstop for now with Villar in a super-utility role. Villar is probably better suited to play second or third base, and his versatility is a nice asset for the Cubs. If the 30-year-old plays enough this season, he could be a solid fantasy contributor who offers a little bit of power and speed while qualifying at several positions. Villar could top the 14 steals he logged last season with the Mets now that he's playing for the rebuilding Cubs.

ImpactRoberts recorded a 3.00 ERA and 0.96 WHIP in 54 innings of relief split across the two highest levels of the minors last season, striking out 32.6 percent of opposing batters while walking 7.7 percent. He'll presumably start off in a lower-leverage role, but if he's able to maintain something close to that level of performance, he could move closer to the back of a wide-open Cubs bullpen.
