Lars Nootbaar - Racks up three hits SaturdayNootbaar went 3-for-5 with a triple, one RBI, one stolen base and one run scored in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Cubs.
ImpactNootbaar had gone 1-for-8 during the Cardinals' three-game series versus the Orioles earlier in the week. He broke out of the short slump with a strong Saturday that included an RBI triple, which gave St. Louis a big enough lead for the win. The outfielder doesn't offer a ton of speed -- the triple was his first of the year to go with three steals. He's added a .227/.338/.409 slash line with five home runs, 19 RBI and 14 runs scored over 155 plate appearances.

Ryan Helsley - Escapes with saveHelsley allowed two runs on four hits in one inning but earned the save in Saturday's 7-6 win over the Cubs. He did not walk or strike out a batter.
ImpactHelsley had gone 11 innings without allowing a run, and he hadn't given up multiple hits in an appearance since April 27. Luckily for the Cardinals, they gave him a three-run lead to protect, and that was just enough leeway in this one. Helsley is 16-for-17 in save chances this season with a 1.96 ERA, 1.00 WHIP and 24:4 K:BB over 23 innings. His lone blown save came in his season debut, and he remains one of the top closers in baseball despite pitching for a mediocre team.

Miles Mikolas - Turns in quality startMikolas allowed three runs on four hits and two walks while striking out six over six innings in a no-decision versus the Cubs on Saturday.
ImpactMikolas had an extra day of rest after Friday's game was rained out and his started was pushed back. The right-hander threw 82 pitches (53 strikes) in a decent performance, though he exited with the game tied at 3-3. He's tossed three quality starts over five outings in May, allowing 13 runs over 27 innings this month. For the season, Mikolas has a 5.64 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 45:13 K:BB over 59 innings across 11 starts. He's tentatively scheduled to make his next start in Philadelphia, which is a daunting matchup for a pitcher that has had middling results at best in 2024.
