Slated to throw bullpen Bassitt (face) will throw a bullpen session Saturday, Martin Gallegos of MLB.com reports.

Impact Bassitt threw off flat ground Wednesday and said he felt "fantastic" afterward, so he'll progress to mound work this weekend. The right-hander isn't yet sure how many bullpen sessions he'll require before he's able to face hitters, but he's recently made encouraging progress in his recovery from facial surgery.

Impact Bassitt has progressed well in his recovery since undergoing successful facial surgery Aug. 24, and his next step will be a bullpen session Saturday, assuming he has no issues Wednesday. The 32-year-old remains without a clear timeline for his return, but he could retake the field this season if he's able to avoid any setbacks in his rehab work.

Impact Manager Bob Melvin indicated he's received reports Bassitt is progressing well from the surgery he underwent Aug. 24 to repair displaced and fractured bones on the right side of his face stemming from a line drive off the bat of the White Sox's Brian Goodwin. The right-hander has apparently been making such good progress that the possibility of a regular-season return remains in play, and as such, Bassitt's potential timeline to begin a throwing program could be one of the components of the evaluation.
