On Sunday, manager Aaron Boone suggested that Schmidt has a good chance of coming off the 60-day injured list and slotting back into the rotation during this weekend's series in Chicago versus the Cubs, with Sunday looking to be his most likely return date. Luis Gil (back) also appears on track to return from the IL to start this weekend, so the Yankees are likely to go with a six-man rotation for at least one turn.

The righty has been out since late May with a right lat strain.
