Impact The right-hander kept Baltimore off the board in the 11th inning, setting the stage for Giancarlo's walkoff single in the Yankees' half of the frame. Holmes has yielded only three runs (two earned) on seven hits and a walk while striking out 12 in 12.1 innings since he joined the Yankees at the trade deadline. He's added three wins and three holds in that span, although there's little chance he works his way into a more prominent role with Aroldis Chapman entrenched as the closer. Chad Green and Jonathan Loaisiga are more likely to get ninth-inning duties if Chapman falters.

Impact Holmes tested positive for COVID-19 nearly two weeks ago but rejoined the Yankees on Thursday. He threw side sessions to test his health but wasn't activated during the team's series against the Twins. However, the right-hander will be available out of the bullpen for Monday's series opener in Atlanta. Holmes has made 12 relief appearances since the All-Star break, and he's posted a 4.97 ERA and 0.95 WHIP in 12.2 innings during that time.

Goes on COVID IL The Yankees placed Holmes on the COVID-19 injured list Wednesday, Erik Boland of Newsday reports.

Impact The club indicated that Holmes is dealing "with symptoms" of the virus, though it's unknown at this point whether he's actually tested positive. Regardless, Holmes will begin a quarantine and will miss time as a result of being placed on the IL. The Yankees called up Brooks Kriske from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre in a corresponding move to provide an extra arm in the bullpen ahead of Wednesday's series finale in Kansas City.
