Anthony Gose - Cleveland selects contract The Guardians selected Gose's contract from Triple-A Columbus on Sunday, kyle reports.

Impact The left-hander elected free agency after being designated for assignment by Cleveland in late August, though he re-signed on a minor-league deal a few days later. Gose has pitched in just two big-league games this season but has a 3.27 ERA, 1.39 WHIP and 58:26 K:BB across 41.1 innings at Triple-A.

Scott Barlow - DFA'd by Cleveland The Guardians designated Barlow for assignment Sunday, kyle reports.

Impact Barlow has struggled since the start of August with 11 earned runs allowed across 11.2 innings, and it will cost him his place on the roster. The veteran right-hander had a 3.12 ERA in 50 outings this season prior to that stretch, so he could land somewhere for the final weeks of the season, though he won't be playoff eligible with a different organization.

Will Brennan - Batting leadoff Sunday Brennan will start in left field and bat leadoff in Sunday's game against the Dodgers.

Impact Though he'll fill in atop the batting order for a resting Steven Kwan on Sunday, Brennan's time as a strong-side platoon player for the Guardians could be over. He had been on the bench for four of the Guardians' previous six matchups with right-handed pitching, with rookie Kyle Manzardo and Lane Thomas seemingly have overtaken Brennan as the team's preferred options at designated hitter and in right field, respectively.

Impact Noel has opened September by going 2-for-14 with five strikeouts and no walks, and his downward-trending performance at the dish appears to have cost him a regular spot in the Cleveland lineup. He'll hit the bench Sunday for the fourth time in five contests, with each of those absences coming against right-handed starting pitchers.

Lane Thomas - Provides offense in loss Thomas went 1-for-4 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 7-2 loss to the Dodgers.

Impact Thomas answered the Dodgers' six-run first inning with a homer in the second, but that was the extent of the Guardians' scoring in the game. After starting his Cleveland tenure on a sour note, Thomas has bounced back, hitting .342 (13-for-38) with two homers and three stolen bases over his last 14 games. He's posted a .239/.317/.384 slash line with 10 homers, 32 steals, 48 RBI and 55 runs scored over 111 contests between the Guardians and the Nationals this year. With Daniel Schneemann unable to secure a strong-side platoon role in center field, Thomas has carved out a decent share of playing time versus right-handers as well as playing regularly versus southpaws.

Andrés Giménez - Three hits, two steals in loss Gimenez went 3-for-5 with two stolen bases in Saturday's loss to the Dodgers.

Impact Gimenez singled and stole second in his first at-bat and later added a leadoff knock in the seventh before swiping his second bag of the night. The second baseman would go on to reach three times in the contest and he's now hit safely in six-straight games to open the month. It marked his second two-steal effort this season and his seventh game with at least three hits. Gimenez is now slashing .320/.370/.640 in September with two homers, four RBI and three runs scored.

Gavin Williams - Can't get through opening frame Williams (3-8) took the loss against the Dodgers on Saturday, allowing five runs on two hits and three walks over two-thirds of an inning. He did not record a strikeout.

Impact Williams had a start he'd like to forget on Saturday, issuing three-consecutive walks with one out in the first inning before then surrendering a ground rule double, along with a sacrifice fly and an RBI single to put Cleveland in an early hole. The right-hander would not make it through the frame and would end up being charged with a fifth after being relieved by Pedro Avila. It easily marked Williams' shortest outing of the campaign after hurling a seven innings of one-run ball in his previous start, while it also marked his first start in which he failed to record a strikeout. Furthermore, Williams has now lost four of his last five starts, issuing multiple free passes in each of those outings.
