The second baseman is batting a mediocre .214 with two RBI and a 1:9 BB:K over seven contests this season. If his bat doesn't heat up, he may lose work to some combination of Harold Castro and Alan Trejo.

Takes tough loss Gomber (9-9) allowed two runs on eight hits and a walk while striking out two over five innings to take the loss against the Dodgers on Friday.

Impact Gomber was probably lucky to escape with only two runs on his line, but it's another decent start for the southpaw despite the poor result. He's given up just five runs (four earned) over his last 23 innings across four starts. Gomber is now at a 5.33 ERA, 1.46 WHIP and 81:36 K:BB through 125 innings over 24 starts this season. He's lined up for a home matchup versus the Diamondbacks next week.

Impact Rodgers missed the previous three contests with a tight right hamstring, but he's feeling well enough to at least bat. When he'll be ready to return to second base isn't clear. Rodgers enters play Friday having gone 5-for-24 with two RBI in six games this season following a four-month absence post-shoulder surgery.

Optioned to Triple-A The Rockies optioned Doyle to Triple-A Albuquerque on Friday.

Impact Doyle was brought up from Triple-A toward the end of July and has since surrendered five runs over 7.1 innings out of the bullpen. He'll attempt to right the ship again in Triple-A -- where he holds a 1.86 ERA on the season -- and Justin Bruihl will come up from Albuquerque to take Doyle's spot in the Rockies' bullpen.

Impact Bruihl put up a 4.07 ERA and 1.32 WHIP through 24.1 innings with the Dodgers before being traded at the deadline, and he'll now get his first opportunity with the Rockies. Tommy Doyle was optioned to Albuquerque in a corresponding move.

Impact Montero produced the only run for the Rockies in the contest with a fifth-inning solo shot off future Hall of Famer Clayton Kershaw. The long ball was a much-needed lift in a rough August so far for the infielder, as he came into Thursday batting just 3-for-29 with 15 strikeouts through seven games. Montero's woes weren't entirely solved despite the homer -- he struck out in each of his other two at-bats.

Tosses quality start Thursday Blach allowed one run on three hits and two walks while striking out two batters over six-plus innings in a no-decision against the Dodgers on Thursday.

Impact Blach got through six frames without allowing a run before serving up a solo homer to Max Muncy to begin the seventh. That led to Blach getting the hook and having to settle for a no-decision, though it was still a promising outing overall. The left-hander finished with his first quality start in a campaign during which he's pitched mostly out of the bullpen. Since moving into the rotation at the end of July, Blach has allowed five runs over 15.2 innings for a solid 2.87 ERA. However, he's struck out just six batters over that span and has just 13 punchouts across 32 frames overall on the campaign.

Impact Flexen looked good early, striking out two of the first three batters he faced before hurling three scoreless innings. However, he really began to struggle with his command in the fourth, allowing three runs on three hits while needing 30 pitches to get out of the inning. The right-hander then surrendered back-to-back home runs with two outs in the fifth before being relieved by Daniel Bard to open the next frame. Flexen has now allowed five runs in two of his last three starts since joining the Rockies and has surrendered two long balls in three straight.

Playing catch again Gilbreath (elbow) was cleared to resume playing catch shortly after the All-Star break and was throwing off flat ground from up to 90 feet as of July 29, MLB.com reports.

Impact After undergoing Tommy John surgery March 14, Gilbreath isn't a candidate to pitch for the Rockies in 2023, and his absence could even stretch into the early portion of the 2024 season. The fact that he's been able to begin a throwing program four months after surgery can at least be viewed as a positive sign at this early stage of his recovery.

Impact Carasiti said he's responding well to treatment for his inflamed right shoulder, but he still has a few more hurdles in the recovery process to clear before his return from the 15-day injured list can be considered imminent. Prior to landing on the shelf, Carasiti compiled a 7.06 ERA and 1.71 WHIP across 21.2 innings out of the Colorado bullpen.
