ImpactSweeney capped off a six-run first inning with a three-run shot, his fourth home run in 21 games since making his MLB debut on Aug. 16. The 24-year-old has some offensive upside, and with Javier Baez (hip) out for the season, Sweeney is getting an extended look at shortstop. Baez has struggled since coming over to Detroit and will be 32 when the 2025 season gets underway, so Sweeney could take the job and run with it, though Baez is still owed $73 million through 2027, which could complicate the situation.

ImpactOne of the victims of a bug that has been making its way around the Detroit clubhouse, Torkelson sat out Tuesday's 11-0 win after feeling under the weather following the Tigers' recent road trip. The day off looks to be all Torkelson needed to move past the ailment, as he'll draw back into the starting nine Wednesday. Since getting called up from Triple-A Toledo on Aug. 17, Torkelson has produced a .757 OPS with four home runs, 10 RBI and 14 runs in 22 games.
