Dom Nuñez - Secures backup catcher jobManager Bud Black confirmed Sunday that Nunez will make the Rockies' Opening Day roster as the team's backup catcher, Thomas Harding of MLB.com reports.
ImpactNunez secured his spot after the Rockies reassigned his main competition for the role -- Carlos Perez and Brian Serven -- to their minor-league camp Sunday. Black lauded Nunez for his power and on-base skills, but a 34.6 percent strikeout rate in 2021 limited the impact of the 27-year-old's overall offensive output. Nunez will likely pick up anywhere from one to three starts per week while top backstop Elias Diaz is healthy.

Adrian Martinez - Sent to Triple-AThe Athletics optioned Martinez to Triple-A Las Vegas on Sunday, Melissa Lockard of The Athletic reports.
ImpactOakland formally sent Martinez to the minors after he was one of two prospects acquired from the Padres earlier Sunday in the deal that sent Sean Manaea to San Diego. Though he won't immediately step into the big-league rotation as a replacement for Manaea, Martinez should have a good chance to make his MLB debut later in 2022, given his status as an advanced minor-league arm who's on the 40-man roster of a rebuilding organization. After a second-half promotion from Double-A San Antonio last season, Martinez delivered a 5.28 ERA and 1.52 WHIP in 44.1 innings with El Paso in his first exposure to the Triple-A level.

Frankie Montas - Named Opening Day starterManager Mark Kotsay said Sunday that Montas will start the Athletics' Opening Day game Friday in Philadelphia, Scott Ostler of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.
ImpactThough Kotsay said the Athletics planned all along to have Montas take the hill for the opener, it became more apparent that the right-hander would get the nod after Oakland dealt Sean Manaea to San Diego earlier Sunday. Montas could be the next domino to fall in the Athletics' ongoing fire sale, but for the time being, he'll operate as the club's clear No. 1 starter. He enjoyed an excellent 2021 campaign for Oakland, covering a career-high 187 frames and finishing with a 13-9 record to go with a 3.37 ERA, 1.18 WHIP and 207:57 K:BB.

Carlos Pérez - Sent to minor-league campThe Rockies reassigned Perez to minor-league camp Sunday.
ImpactColorado also reassigned fellow backstop Brian Serven to minor-league camp Sunday, signaling that Dom Nunez has made the Rockies' Opening Day roster as the No. 2 catcher behind Elias Diaz. Perez, who most recently saw big-league action with Texas and Atlanta during the 2018 season, is expected to report to Triple-A Albuquerque to begin the 2022 campaign.

Antonio Senzatela - Scratched with lower-leg injuryRockies manager Bud Black said that Senzatela has been scratched ahead of his scheduled Cactus League start Sunday against the White Sox due to a lower-leg issue, Thomas Harding of...
ImpactThe skipper said the Rockies are just being "super cautious" with Senzatela, who is still expected to make his final start of the Cactus League slate either Monday against the Brewers or Tuesday against the Guardians. Kyle Freeland has been named as the Rockies' starter for the Opening Day game Friday against the Dodgers at Coors Field, while Senzatela and German Marquez are in line to start the final two games of next weekend in some order.
