Impact Norby was called up from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday to take the roster spot of Jorge Mateo, who was placed on the injured list with an elbow injury. Norby made a strong impression upon his return to the majors, belting a solo shot in the fourth inning and adding an infield single in the ninth. Norby probably isn't going to play every day, but he could stick with the big club for awhile with Mateo expected to be out for at least several weeks.

Officially back on Baltimore roster The Orioles recalled Norby from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday.

Impact Norby had been on the taxi squad while the Orioles evaluated Jorge Mateo (elbow) and he's now on the active roster after it was determined Mateo needed a stint on the injured list. The 24-year-old Norby could see some reps at second base while Mateo is out, although the team will also use Jordan Westburg there on days Ramon Urias handles third base.

Promotion incoming The Orioles will recall Norby from Triple-A Norfolk on Thursday, Paige Leckie of MLB.com reports.

Impact The 24-year-old was added to the Orioles' taxi squad Wednesday after Jorge Mateo injured his elbow during Tuesday's contest, and Norby is now slated to rejoin the big-league roster once Mateo is placed on the injured list. Norby went 3-for-14 with a homer and two RBI during his first stint in the majors in June, and he has posted a .967 OPS through 137 plate appearances since being optioned back to Triple-A.

Impact Norby has been slowed in camp due to slight left side soreness, but the injury shouldn't be anything that prevents him from being ready to go for the start of Triple-A Norfolk's season in April. Hyde didn't say whether Norby would be deployed in the field or eased back in as a designated hitter Sunday, but the 23-year-old is likely to check into the contest in the later innings.

Back in action Norby has gone 5-for-24 across five games since returning from a lower leg injury.

Impact Norby was hurt June 24, but he was back in the lineup four days later. The infield prospect has done fairly well with Triple-A Norfolk this season, slashing .277/.329/.439 with nine home runs, 46 RBI, 57 runs scored and four stolen bases through 75 contests. The 23-year-old likely still needs more time with Norfolk before being in contention for a call-up, especially with the Orioles' already-crowded infield.

Removed with shin injury Norby was removed from Saturday's game for Triple-A Norfolk after fouling a ball off his left shin, Nathan Ruiz of The Baltimore Sun reports.

Impact Norby is considered day-to-day after being removed due to the injury. The 2021 second-round pick has enjoyed a solid season in Norfolk with a slash of .284/.335/.446 along with eight homers over 289 at-bats coming into Saturday's contest. He has an outside chance of making his major-league debut for Baltimore in 2023.

Impact The 22-year-old second baseman's 0.2 BB/K is easily his worst mark since rookie ball in 2021, and his 25.9 percent hard-hit rate is mediocre for a player his age at Triple-A. His swing-decision metrics suggest he is forcing the issue too much, rather than waiting for pitches he can drive. Compared to Triple-A teammates Joey Ortiz (117 wRC+) and Jordan Westburg (114 wRC+), Norby (85 wRC+) is probably the least likely of Baltimore's high-profile infield prospects to get an emergency promotion in the coming weeks.
