Impact Kluber has returned to the Red Sox and is likely to get a start in one half of Saturday's doubleheader against the Rays. He was moved to the bullpen last week but did not make a relief appearance prior to being excused from the team. It's a little uncertain what the season-long plan will be for the veteran right-hander, though his fantasy appeal figures to remain quite low no matter the role.

Moving to bullpen Kluber has been demoted to the Red Sox' bullpen, manager Alex Cora said in an interview on WEEI Red Sox Network on Wednesday.
Impact Cora had said earlier this week that Kluber would make his next start, but the skipper has apparently changed his mind. Kluber has been dreadful after inking a one-year, $10 million contract over the offseason, putting up a 6.26 ERA and 34:18 K:BB across 41.2 innings covering nine starts. That, combined with Tanner Houck's strong showing his last time out, is the impetus behind Kluber's demotion. The 37-year-old wouldn't seem to be a great fit for relief and figures to be relegated to a mop-up role.

Impact Kluber lasted just 2.1 innings in a loss to the Padres on Sunday and walked three batters during a four-run first inning. With Garrett Whitlock (elbow) expected to be activated and start this coming Saturday, Boston's rotation will swell to six. That means Cora will have a decide on which starter to cut to get back to a five-man rotation. Kluber had been off the radar when it came to potential rotation removals the last few weeks, but it's hard to defend his 6.26 ERA and 18 walks over 41.2 innings.

Chased early in loss Kluber (2-6) yielded five runs (one earned) over 2.1 innings and took a loss against the Padres on Sunday. He allowed three hits and three walks while striking out one batter.
Impact The Padres jumped all over Kluber in the first inning, plating four runs. He was later charged with one more run in the third after he was removed from the game. Just one of the runs allowed was earned, meaning Kluber dropped his ERA from 6.41 to 6.26. On the bright side, this was his first start all year without giving up a home run. Kluber's next start is currently lined up to be in Arizona.

Impact Kluber was far from dominant in the outing, as he induced just nine swinging strikes and punched out only one batter. However, he didn't issue any walks and kept the Phillies away from big innings, allowing a single run in each of the second, fourth and fifth frames.
