Impact The Rockies removed Hudson from their 40-man roster and he's choosing free agency rather than accepting an outright assignment. Essentially, it's a way for the club to non-tender the right-hander early, as it was unlikely to offer Hudson a raise via arbitration after the righty posted a 6.17 ERA in 18 starts this season. Hudson ended the season on the injured list with right elbow inflammation but should be healthy by spring training.

Impact Hudson was called up for his 18th start of the season Saturday versus Atlanta and surrendered five runs on three hits and four walks over 2.2 innings. The 29-year-old likely won't be reinserted into the rotation once healthy given his 6.17 ERA and 49:50 K:BB this season.

The 29-year-old Hudson owns a 5.84 ERA through 86.1 innings in the majors this season, and he'll have the disadvantage of pitching in Coors Field during his first start back in the big leagues. Starting Saturday The Rockies will select Hudson's contract from Triple-A Albuquerque to start Saturday's game against Atlanta, Patrick Lyons of JustBaseball.com reports.

Impact The loss of Ryan Feltner (shoulder) created an opening in Colorado's starting rotation, and it seems Hudson will be the choice to fill the gap until Feltner is able to return. The 29-year-old Hudson has started 17 games for the Rockies this season, but he was outrighted to Albuquerque in early July after accumulating a 5.84 ERA and 1.64 WHIP -- both of which represent the worst marks of his seven-year MLB career. Cal Quantrill, who was originally slated to start Saturday's game, will have his next start pushed back to Colorado's next series in Arizona.

No run support in loss Hudson (2-12) took the loss Wednesday against the Brewers, allowing three runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out four in 4.2 innings.

Impact Hudson and the Rockies quickly found themselves trailing after Christian Yelich took the right-hander deep in the opening frame. Hudson would later display more control issues that have plagued him much of the season. The Brewers tacked on another run in the second after a walk, a wild pitch and a base hit. He then loaded the bases in the fifth and walked in a third run before being replaced with two outs in the frame. The 29-year-old now owns a 5.84 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 48:46 K:BB in 86.1 innings this year. He lines up to face the Reds on the road early next week.
