2025 Atlanta Braves Player Review: Davis Daniel You can’t trust people with two first names.
NOVEMBER 19 • BATTERYPOWER.COM
Removed from 40-man roster Atlanta outrighted Daniel to Triple-A Gwinnett on Saturday, Lindsay Crosby of AthlonSports.com reports.
Impact Daniel has been with Gwinnett since July 23, but the move will remove him from Atlanta's 40-man roster. The 28-year-old has started in 16 of 17 appearances at Triple-A this season, posting a 5.20 ERA and a 71:37 K:BB across 83 innings. He'll have the opportunity to elect free agency or remain in Atlanta's organization.

Braves option right-handers Davis Daniel and Wander Suero to Triple-A Gwinnett

The Atlanta Braves have optioned right-handers Davis Daniel and Wander Suero to Triple-A Gwinnett
JULY 23 • Associated Press
Optioned to Triple-A Atlanta optioned Daniel to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Impact The transaction comes one day after Daniel was knocked around for five runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings in a loss to the Giants. It's not yet clear who will take Daniel's spot in the Atlanta rotation.

Sent to Triple-A Atlanta optioned Daniel to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Impact The transaction comes one day after Daniel was knocked around for five runs on seven hits and four walks over five innings in a loss to the Giants. Atlanta called up right-hander Hunter Stratton from Triple-A to provide a fresh arm in the bullpen for Wednesday's series finale with San Francisco, but it's not yet clear who will replace Daniel in the rotation.
JULY 23 • ROTOWIRE
Roughed up by Giants on Tuesday Daniel (0-1) took the loss Tuesday against the Giants, allowing five runs on seven hits and four walks in five innings. He struck out three.
Impact The Giants hit Daniel hard in the second inning, plating four runs and getting six batters to reach base during the frame. The 28-year-old right-hander was still able to eat five innings for Atlanta's injury-plagued rotation, and he at least appears to be stretched out for a traditional starter's workload after throwing 92 pitches in third start of the season Tuesday. Daniels owns a dicey 5.40 ERA, 1.60 WHIP and 9:7 K:BB through his first 10 frames, and his next turn tentatively lines up for next week in Kansas City against the Royals.

Giants play the Braves after Adames' 4-hit game

The San Francisco Giants play the Atlanta Braves after Willy Adames had four hits on Monday in a 9-5 loss to the Braves
JULY 22 • Associated Press
Making another start Daniel is slated to start Tuesday's game against the Giants in Atlanta, Mark Bowman of MLB.com reports.
Impact Daniel will be making his second straight turn through the Atlanta rotation after he was called up from Triple-A Gwinnett on July 13 to start the big club's final game before the All-Star break. Though he took a no-decision and was limited to just 73 pitches in Atlanta's 5-4 loss to St. Louis, Daniel performed well in the start, striking out five while yielding one earned run on two hits and three walks in four innings. Daniel should be operating with fewer restrictions with his pitch count Tuesday and could stake a more permanent claim to a rotation spot with a strong showing against the Giants.
JULY 21 • ROTOWIRE
Fans five in no-decision Daniel did not factor in the decision during Sunday's loss to St. Louis. He allowed a run on two hits and three walks over four innings while striking out five.
Impact Daniel was promoted from Triple-A Gwinnett to make his first MLB appearance since April 27. He ran into some trouble in the first two frames and coughed up a run in the second inning before retiring seven of the last eight batters he faced. Daniel has posted a 3.27 ERA over 71.2 innings at the Triple-A level this season. As of now, it's unclear if he'll stick around with Atlanta after the All-Star break. There may be room for Daniel to carve out a role as the team deals with a banged-up rotation, including injuries to Chris Sale (ribs) and Spencer Schwellenbach (elbow).
JULY 14 • ROTOWIRE
Gets call to Atlanta Atlanta recalled Daniel from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Impact Daniel was recently placed on Gwinnett's temporary inactive list earlier this week after stepping away from the team to observe the birth of his child, but he's ready to return to action and will end up joining the big club for the second time this season. The right-hander previously made a one-inning relief appearance in an April 27 loss to the Diamondbacks, but he should fill a more prominent role Sunday in St. Louis. Atlanta has an opening in its rotation for the series finale, so Daniel will presumably start or serve as a bulk reliever. Over 14 appearances (13 starts) at Gwinnett this season, Daniel owns a 3.27 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 59:31 K:BB across 71.2 innings.

Impact Daniel was recently placed on Gwinnett's temporary inactive list earlier this week after stepping away from the team to observe the birth of his child, but he's ready to return to action and will end up joining the big club for the second time this season. The right-hander previously made a one-inning relief appearance in an April 27 loss to the Diamondbacks, but he will start Sunday in St. Louis. Atlanta will have a pair of open spots in its rotation coming out of the All-Star break, so with a respectable showing Sunday, Daniel should be a good bet to begin the second half in a starting role with the big club. Over 14 appearances (13 starts) at Gwinnett this season, Daniel owns a 3.27 ERA, 1.21 WHIP and 59:31 K:BB across 71.2 innings.
JULY 13 • ROTOWIRE
Send back to Triple-A Atlanta optioned Daniel to Triple-A Gwinnett on Monday.
Impact Daniel's stay with the big club lasted just one day, with the right-hander tossing a scoreless inning out of the bullpen in Sunday's 6-4 loss to Arizona following his call-up from Triple-A. He'll likely slot back into the rotation with Gwinnett.
APRIL 28 • ROTOWIRE
Recalled by Atlanta Atlanta recalled Daniel from Triple-A Gwinnett on Sunday.
Impact Daniel takes the spot on the 26-man roster vacated by Jesse Chavez, who was designated for assignment in a corresponding move. Daniel has started in three games in Triple-A this season, going 0-2 with a 4.63 ERA, 1.34 WHIP and 9:6 K:BB across 11.2 innings. The 27-year-old right-hander will likely serve in Atlanta's bullpen as a long-relief option, though he could make some spot starts in the rotation for as long as Spencer Strider (hamstring) is on the 15-day injured list.
APRIL 27 • ROTOWIRE
Sent to Triple-A Atlanta optioned Daniel to Triple-A Gwinnett on Wednesday.
Impact After finishing the 2024 Triple-A season with a 5.42 ERA and 1.46 WHIP, Daniel was traded from the Angels to Atlanta in December. He was able to get through two scoreless innings during his lone spring appearance, but Atlanta will likely need to see more from him in the minors before giving him a chance in its starting rotation.
FEBRUARY 26 • ROTOWIRE
Traded to Atlanta Atlanta acquired Daniel from the Angels on Friday in exchange for Mitch Farris.
Impact Daniel had been designated for assignment by the Angels but will now join Atlanta's 40-man roster. The 27-year-old posted a 6.23 ERA and 28:6 K:BB over 30.1 innings in 2024 and will likely begin 2025 in the Triple-A Gwinnett rotation.
DECEMBER 20, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Designated for assignment The Angels designated Daniel for assignment Wednesday.
Impact The move frees up a spot on the 40-man roster for Chuckie Robinson, who was acquired in a trade Wednesday. Daniel, 27, made six starts for the Angels in 2024, posting a 6.23 ERA and 28:6 K:BB over 30.1 innings. He has a solid 25.8 percent strikeout rate in the minors, so it's possible Daniel will draw interest via trade or waivers.
DECEMBER 18, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sent back to Triple-A The Angels optioned Daniel to Triple-A Salt Lake on Tuesday.
Impact Daniel will head back to the minors just a day after he surrendered four earned runs over five innings during his start Monday against the Blue Jays. Kenny Rosenberg will come up from Salt Lake to fill the open roster spot, though Jack Kochanowicz is the most likely option to fill the fifth spot in the Halos' rotation.
AUGUST 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Roughed up by Blue Jays Daniel (1-4) took the loss Monday against Toronto, allowing four runs on eight hits and two walks across five innings. He struck out two.
Impact All four runs attributed to Daniel came in the third inning, when he surrendered back-to-back doubles, an RBI single and a two-run home run, with the long ball coming off Leo Jimenez's bat. Daniel has surrendered at least four runs in back-to-back starts and has done so in four of six starts this season. Though Daniel is expected to remain in the rotation, the Angels could replace him with Jack Kochanowicz, who allowed two runs across 7.2 innings Sunday after being recalled from Double-A.
AUGUST 13, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
No longer starting Sunday Daniel will not start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact The Angels had previously named Daniel as the starter for Sunday's series finale, even though he would be pitching on three days' rest after tossing 83 pitches in the first game of a doubleheader with the Yankees on Wednesday. However, the team will now switch course and call up Jack Kochanowicz from Double-A Rocket City to start Sunday instead of having Daniel take the hill on short rest. Daniel is a candidate to pitch Monday against the Blue Jays on regular rest, though the Angels haven't released their probable starters for the three-game home series.
AUGUST 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
No longer starting Sunday Daniel will not start Sunday's game against the Nationals, Rhett Bollinger of MLB.com reports.
Impact Daniel was surprisingly named the Angels' starter for Sunday's series finale despite throwing 83 pitches in Game 1 of a doubleheader Wednesday. However, the team will switch course and start Jack Kochanowicz on Sunday instead of having Daniel pitch on three days' rest. Daniel is a candidate to pitch Monday against the Blue Jays on regular rest, though the Angels haven't released their probable starters for the three-game home series.
AUGUST 11, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Starting on three days' rest Sunday Daniel will make his next start Sunday in Washington against the Nationals, Jeff Fletcher of The Orange County Register reports.
Impact Daniel was roughed up in his most recent loss Wednesday in the first game of a doubleheader with the Yankees, taking a loss while giving up five earned runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four. Even though Daniel handled a relatively standard workload (83 pitches) in that outing, the Angels will have the right-hander return to the mound on three days' rest rather than his usual four or five Sunday. The Angels haven't specifically said that Daniel will be on a workload restriction against the Nationals, though it wouldn't be surprising if that was the case.
AUGUST 10, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Sputters against Yankees Daniel (1-3) took the loss against the Yankees on Wednesday in Game 1 of a doubleheader, allowing five runs on seven hits and two walks while striking out four batters over 3.1 inn...
Impact Daniel fell behind 2-0 after one inning and 3-0 after two before pitching his first scoreless frame in the third. However, he couldn't maintain any momentum in the fourth, as he allowed two of the three hitters he faced to reach base before getting the hook. Altogether, the rookie ended up allowing five runs, the third time in five starts he's given up that amount (though in one of those starts, only four of the runs were earned). Daniel has shown some promise too with a pair of strong starts during which he's given up just one earned run across a combined 13 frames, but his overall 6.04 ERA and 1.38 WHIP (despite a solid 23:4 K:BB) over 25.1 innings make him a volatile fantasy starter.
AUGUST 8, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
LAA-NYY rained out Tuesday Daniel and the Angels will not play Tuesday after their game against the Yankees was postponed due to inclement weather.
Impact The contest has been rescheduled as part of a traditional doubleheader Wednesday. Daniel will now take the ball for the Angels that day instead.
AUGUST 6, 2024 • ROTOWIRE
Drawing another start Daniel is scheduled to start Tuesday's game against the Yankees on the road.
Impact Daniel will stick around as the Angels' No. 5 starter for another turn after he showed well in his return to the big leagues this past Wednesday, when he limited the Rockies to one run over five innings while striking out five batters. The right-hander will draw a tougher test for his second turn through the rotation, but barring a disaster of an outing in The Bronx, Daniel should have some staying power in a starting role with the Halos.
