Goes on IL with knee tendinitis The Marlins placed Cronin on the 15-day injured list Friday with left knee tendinitis, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Impact Cronin dealt with an undisclosed injury a few weeks ago, but it's unclear whether that was knee related. The reliever's season will end with him having posted a 4.35 ERA and 72:25 K:BB over 70.1 innings covering 56 appearances.

Moves past undisclosed injury Cronin (undisclosed) struck out two batters and collected a hold across two perfect innings of relief in his first two appearances of September on Wednesday and Saturday.

Impact Cronin was lifted during an extended relief appearance Aug. 29 in Colorado due to an apparent injury, but he returned to action just under a week later to remove any lingering concern about his health. The 26-year-old righty has picked up four of his six holds on the season in the past month and could be primed to pitch in more high-leverage situations down the stretch with Calvin Faucher (shoulder) recently joining Andrew Nardi (elbow) on the shelf.

Exits with apparent injury Cronin was removed from Thursday's game against the Rockies due to an apparent injury, Christina De Nicola of MLB.com reports.

Impact Cronin was able to remain in the game after his first visit from the Marlins' training staff, though the decision was eventually made to pull him after he had trouble fielding a groundball in the sixth inning. It's not immediately apparent what is bothering the 26-year-old righty, but the team should have some more information on his status sometime after the game.

Impact Claimed off waivers over the winter, Cronin gave the Marlins some quality innings early in the season in a low-leverage role. The league may have figured the right-hander out however -- over his last 12 appearances, he carries a rough 8.27 ERA and 1.84 WHIP. Cronin's biggest strength is a 54.5 percent groundball rate, but he's still been somewhat fortunate to have allowed zero homers so far in 2024. If that luck runs out, further regression could be coming for his ERA. Even if Miami ships out high-leverage relievers like Tanner Scott by the trade deadline, Cronin seems unlikely to take over a prominent role.

Claimed by Astros The Astros claimed Cronin off waivers from the White Sox on Thursday, Chandler Rome of The Athletic reports.

Impact Cronin had been designated for assignment last week. The 26-year-old reliever yielded 11 runs over 11 innings for Chicago in 2023 in his first taste of big-league action. Cronin doesn't miss many bats but has consistently posted groundball rates well over 50 percent during his time in the minors.

Returns to majors The White Sox recalled Cronin from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday, Daryl Van Schouwen of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

Impact As Jesse Scholtens heads to the injured list, Cronin will return to the major-league roster a day after being optioned to the minors. The 26-year-old righty has given up 10 runs through 7.2 innings with the White Sox this season, so he likely still won't see much action while with Chicago.
