Mason Englert - Resumes mound work Englert (hip) has thrown three bullpen sessions since landing on the 15-day injured list July 24, MLB.com reports.

Impact Though Englert isn't on track to return from the IL on Monday when first eligible, he at least hasn't been shut down from throwing as he works his way back from a sore left hip. Assuming he checked out fine after his most recent bullpen session Saturday, Englert could be cleared to face hitters early this week before potentially reporting to a minor-league affiliate for a brief rehab assignment.

Joey Wentz - Awarded another start Wentz is slated to start Monday's game against the Twins at Comerica Park, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Impact The young lefty will get at least one more turn through the rotation after he shined in a bulk-relief role his last time out July 29 in what was his first appearance in the big leagues in a month. In that appearance against the Marlins, Wentz struck out six over 4.2 scoreless innings while allowing four hits and one walk. The Tigers seem content to have Wentz pitch as a traditional starter Monday rather than out of the bullpen, an arrangement that could raise his innings floor but may work against him in qualifying for a win.

Kerry Carpenter - Goes yard as part of three hit day Carpenter went 3-for-4 with a two-run homer and three runs scored in Sunday's loss to the Rays.

Impact Carpenter put together his first three-hit effort since June 18 and had his first long ball since July 15. The blast came in the seventh off Jason Adam and was a 423-foot shot to center field. Carpenter now has a hit in three straight and has totaled six hits over that span. Carpenter raised his slash line to .265/.327/.473 and has an OPS of .800 which would all lead the team if he had enough at-bats to qualify.

Matt Manning - Hit hard in Sunday's loss Manning (3-4) took the loss against the Rays on Sunday, allowing eight runs (six earned) on nine hits and a walk while striking out three in 5.2 innings.

Impact Manning's struggles carried over into Sunday's start. He allowed five runs through the first two innings and later gave up his second home run of the day in the fourth. The 25-year-old was miraculously one out away from completing six frames but as yanked after allowing consecutive base hits. Manning has put together a very forgettable three-game stretch during which he's allowed 19 runs (17 earned) on 23 hits including six home runs over his last 16.2 innings. The Tigers don't really have any better options at this point so Manning figures to stick around. He's tentatively lined up to face the Red Sox on the road in his next start.
