Impact Carpenter's home run in the seventh inning with a runner on was his first of the season. The outfielder popped six long balls last year as a rookie and posted a solid .795 OPS across 31 games. Carpenter is seeing regular playing time against righties, with Matt Vierling a platoon option against southpaws.

Eduardo Rodriguez - Pitches decently Wednesday Rodriguez allowed one run on seven hits across six innings and did not factor into the decision in Wednesday's 10-inning loss to the Blue Jays. He walked one and struck out three.
Impact Rodriguez held his own against a tough Toronto lineup, but the 2-9 Tigers weren't able to give him much support. The lefty had allowed seven earned runs across 10 innings in his first two starts, so this was a step in the right direction, though fantasy managers would like to see more strikeouts moving forward. Rodriguez lines up to face the Guardians early next week.

Impact It's looking like Friday's series opener might be the target, and Lorenzen's activation comes with good timing after Matt Manning landed on the injured list Wednesday because of a fractured right foot. Lorenzen has missed the first three weeks of the 2023 campaign while recovering from a left groin strain. He gave up four earned runs over just 2.1 innings in his lone rehab start last Saturday with Triple-A Toledo, so fantasy expectations should be pretty low.

Impact Manning suffered a fracture to the fifth metatarsal in his right foot Tuesday when he was struck by a comebacker while making a start against the Blue Jays. There's no exact timetable yet, but he'll at least miss the remainder of April. The 25-year-old leaves behind a 4.63 ERA, 1.29 WHIP and 7:3 K:BB through 11.2 innings (two starts) on the season with Detroit.

Impact Though manager A.J. Hinch said a week and a half ago that McKinstry would get the bulk of the playing time at second base over Jonathan Schoop, the Tigers already appear to be pulling the plug on that plan. The lefty-hitting McKinstry has now been left out of the lineup for three straight games -- all against right-handed starting pitchers -- after opening his time in Detroit with a .158/.200/.158 slash line in 20 plate appearances. Zack Hess - Rehabbing at High-A Hess (elbow) made his second rehab appearances for High-A West Michigan on Tuesday, covering 1.2 innings while giving up three earned runs on four hits and striking out two.
Impact Hess remains on Double-A Erie's 7-day injured list, but with two rehab appearances with West Michigan under his belt, he appears to be on the cusp of an activation. The 26-year-old righty is making his way back from January 2022 Tommy John surgery.
