Alex Faedo - Ready to compete for rotation Faedo (hip) told Evan Woodbery of MLive.com on Tuesday that he feels great and is ready to compete for an Opening Day roster spot.

Impact Faedo pitched brilliantly over his first seven major-league starts last season and then got hammered in the next five. He ultimately posted a 5.53 ERA in 53.2 innings (12 starts) with the Tigers before undergoing surgery in late July to repair a torn labrum and torn capsule in his right hip. The 27-year-old is hoping to challenge for a starting job this spring, but he might wind up in long relief or in the rotation at Triple-A Toledo.

Impact On top of dealing with Achilles issues last summer, Meadows also dealt with vertigo while also battling his own anxiety and mental health. The outfielder struggled after being traded to the Tigers from the Rays in 2022 when he was on the field with a .675 OPS, no homers and zero steals over 147 plate appearances. He's not long removed from being one of the best young outfielders in the sport, so assuming good health, he very well could be an effective option for the Tigers and potentially fantasy managers in 2023.

However, he wasn't able to start a throwing progression until the fall, but the 27-year-old backstop appears to be in sound health at the start of spring training. He'll be competing in camp for a spot on the Tigers' Opening Day roster as the top backup to presumptive No. 1 catcher Eric Haase.

Matt Wisler - Latches on with Detroit Wisler signed a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Monday that includes an invitation to big-league spring training, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

Impact Wisler will have an opportunity to crack the Tigers' Opening Day roster after spending spring training with the team. The 30-year-old produced a 2.25 ERA and 1.00 WHIP with 35 strikeouts over 44 innings in 39 appearances with the Rays in 2022. Considering the lack of consistent options in Detroit's bullpen, Wisler has a real shot at being a significant contributor in 2023.

Tarik Skubal - Doing flat-ground throwing Skubal (elbow) said Thursday he has advanced to flat-ground throwing, according to Chris McCosky of the Detroit News.

Impact Skubal is currently doing around 40 throws on flat ground four times a week, and the hope is that he can get clearance to return to mound work sometime this spring. The 26-year-old left-hander is already ticketed for a season-opening stint on the IL following flexor tendon surgery last August, but he should be an option again for the Tigers around mid-2023 if there are no setbacks along the way.

DJ Peters - Lands minors deal with Detroit Peters agreed to a minor-league contract with the Tigers on Wednesday, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.

Impact Peters played 85 games with the Lotte Giants of the Korea Baseball Organization in 2022, struggling to a .228/.299/.402 slash line before being released in July. He finished the season in the Nationals' system, posting a .455 OPS in 51 plate appearances over 13 games with Triple-A Rochester. Once an intriguing prospect, the 27-year-old will provide Detroit with some outfield depth in the minors and is likely to open 2023 with Triple-A Toledo.
