Gregory Soto - Secures save in Game 1 Soto worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Guardians.

Impact Working with a 4-1 lead, Soto made things interesting by allowing the tying run to come to the plate. However, the lefty induced an Owen Miller groundout to end the game. Soto has been mostly effective this year with 16 saves in 18 opportunities to go along with a 2.48 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 30 strikeouts across 29 innings. The Tigers will likely get some calls on their top reliever leading up to the trade deadline.

Garrett Hill - Wins MLB debut Monday Hill (1-0) allowed a run on two hits across six innings to earn the win in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Guardians. He walked one and struck out three.

Impact Making his MLB debut, Hill was sharp, with a Josh Naylor solo home run accounting for the only damage. Detroit manager A.J. Hinch previously said that Hill would make three turns through the rotation leading up to the All-Star break. The next opportunity for the 26-year-old is slated for Saturday against the White Sox. Impact Clemens had been seeing time at first base lately, but he shifted to second Sunday with Spencer Torkelson (head) returning to the lineup. Clemens already didn't have a ton of fantasy value with just a .146 batting average this season, and now his playing time is likely to decrease moving forward, though he should still see some starts as an infield reserve.

Impact The Tigers were unable to keep up with the Royals offensively Sunday, but Torkelson put Detroit on the board with his fifth homer of the season in the bottom of the fifth inning. The 22-year-old's bat has been quiet recently, as he's hit just .167 with a homer, a double, three runs and two RBI over his last nine games. However, it's been encouraging to see him play in the last two matchups after being hit in the head by a pitch during Friday's series opener.

Impact Skubal has been charged with losses in five consecutive starts, and he's failed to last longer than five innings in any of those appearances. The southpaw had a season-low one strikeout during Sunday's start, and the Royals were able to jump out to an early lead. Over his last five outings, he's posted a 9.00 ERA in 23 innings. Detroit could get one or both of Rony Garcia (shoulder) or Matt Manning (biceps/shoulder) back from the injured list shortly after the break, so Hill may need to prove serviceable while eating innings over his three starts to ensure he remains in the rotation when the second half of the season begins. Over his eight outings with Toledo prior to his promotion, the 26-year-old Hill turned in a 4.06 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 46:15 K:BB across 37.2 innings.
