Michael Pineda - Surrenders eight runs in lossPineda (2-5) took the loss during Saturday's 10-0 defeat at the hands of the Guardians, allowing eight runs on nine hits while striking out one in two innings.
ImpactPineda got off to a rocky start -- serving up a three-run home run to Jose Ramirez before recording an out -- but was able to retire the next three Guardians. The second inning went even worse as the 33-year-old put five of the first six batters on base, capped by another Ramirez home run, to fall behind 8-0 after two frames. Pineda's downfall might've been finding the zone too often as he fired 37 of 47 pitches for strikes, though that strategy had worked prior to Saturday as it led to a 3.58 ERA and a 1.36 BB/9 would rank third in MLB if he had enough innings to qualify. The veteran righty concludes the first half with a 5.22 ERA and 1.36 WHIP with 20 strikeouts in 39.2 innings across nine starts.

Tyler Alexander - Starting bullpen gameAlexander will be the first pitcher on the mound in what's expected to be a bullpen game Sunday against the Guardians, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
ImpactAlexander does have starting experience, as he's started 29 games at the big-league level in his career, but he's not expeced to pitch too deep into Sunday's contest. He's topped out at 3.2 innings over his last 12 appearances, and the Tigers should be able to use plenty of relievers with a three-day break coming up after Sunday's game.

José Ramírez - Slugs two long ballsRamirez went 2-for-5 with two home runs, two runs and five RBI in a 10-0 win against the Tigers on Saturday.
ImpactRamirez opened the scoring with a three-run shot off Michael Pineda in the first inning and tagged Pineda again for a two-run homer during his next at-bat in the second. The pair of long balls matches the 29-year-old's total from his last 33 games and as his slugging dropped nearly 100 points from .647 to .558 during the dry spell. The successful performance increased his season line to .288/.368/.576, with his slugging and OPS both ranking among the 10 best in MLB.

Cal Quantrill - Posts six shutout framesQuantrill (6-5) earned the win during Saturday's 10-0 victory over Detroit, allowing four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six scoreless innings.
ImpactQuantrill settled down after stranding the bases loaded and firing 27 pitches in the first inning to prevent any Detroit batter from passing first base the rest of the way, including retiring the final seven batters he faced. The 27-year-old tossed 62 of 100 pitches for strikes with an impressive 14 whiffs as the five strikeouts surprisingly tie his second-best mark this season. Quantrill concludes a solid first half with a 3.75 ERA and 1.29 WHIP with 63 strikeouts in 100.2 innings across 17 starts.
