Beau Brieske - Takes first loss WednesdayBrieske (1-1) allowed one run on a hit and two walks in an inning of relief to take the loss Wednesday against the Guardians.

ImpactBrieske entered in the eighth inning of a 1-1 game and walked his first hitter. He later intentionally walked Jose Ramirez and had a chance to escape without any damage, but a seeing-eye single by Josh Naylor with two outs brought home the go-ahead run. It's encouraging that Brieske was trusted with high-leverage work despite struggling lately, as the righty has a 7.59 ERA across 10.2 innings this month.

Tanner Bibee - Dealing with crampingBibee was removed from Wednesday's game versus Detroit due to lower-extremity cramping, Mandy Bell of MLB.com reports.

ImpactMost of the attention seemed to be on Bibee's right knee while trainers examined him on the mound, but it appears he managed to avoid a significant injury. The Guardians will presumably keep an eye on him over the next few days, though it seems there is a strong chance he'll be able to make his next scheduled start against the Tigers.

Matt Vierling - Homers early in lossVierling went 1-for-4 with a solo home run in Wednesday's 2-1 loss to the Guardians.

ImpactVierling went deep in the first inning, his 13th home run of the season, but then he and the rest of Detroit's hitters went quiet the remainder of the game. The 27-year-old continues to increase his career-best total of long balls, as his previous high was the 10 home runs he hit last year. Vierling is also two RBI away from tying his career-best mark of 44, which was also set in 2023.
