Detroit will call up Joey Wentz from Triple-A Toledo to start Wednesday against Oakland, and either he or Faedo is expected to stay in the rotation the next time the Tigers require a fifth starter May 16 in Tampa Bay.

Casey Mize - First rehab start on tapMize (elbow) will make his first rehab start at Triple-A Toledo on Thursday, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

ImpactMize has been on the injured list since mid-April due to a right elbow sprain, but he'll return to game action in the minors late this week. It's possible the 25-year-old will require more than one Triple-A start since he's been sidelined nearly a month, but his rehab assignment should be the final step in his recovery process.

Matt Manning - Next rehab start coming FridayManning (shoulder) is scheduled to make his second rehab start at Triple-A Toledo on Friday, Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic reports.

ImpactManning's first rehab outing with Toledo on Sunday went about as well as possible, as the 24-year-old right-hander struck out four while allowing just one baserunner over three scoreless innings. He tossed 36 pitches in that outing and will likely ramp up his pitch count to the 50-to-60 range as he looks to get stretched back out for a traditional starting role. Manning could require one more start at Toledo's beyond Friday before making his way back from the 10-day injured list.

Joey Wentz - Set for big-league debutWentz will make his MLB debut Wednesday against the Athletics, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.

ImpactWentz owns a strong 33.8 percent strikeout rate through five starts for Triple-A Toledo this season, though that's come with a 13.0 percent walk rate and a 4.12 ERA. Since his return from Tommy John surgery in May of 2021, he owns a mediocre 4.42 ERA in 23 starts, but the Tigers will nevertheless give him a chance on the biggest stage. He'll at least get a relatively easy opponent to debut against, but he'll need to find the strike zone more consistently if he's to stick in the majors.

Even though he'll likely continue to hit eighth or ninth against righties, Hill at least looks like he'll have a clear path to regular starts in center field after the lefty-hitting Akil Baddoo was optioned to Triple-A Toledo earlier Monday.

Austin Meadows - Starting MondayMeadows (illness) is starting Monday against the Athletics, Evan Petzold of the Detroit Free Press reports.

ImpactMeadows was scratched from Friday's lineup due to a non-COVID-19-related illness, and he was ultimately forced to miss three games. However, he'll start in right field and bat fourth Monday. Over his four games in May, the 27-year-old has gone 2-for-17 with a double and three strikeouts.
