Spencer Torkelson - Unfazed by Double-ATorkelson is hitting .273/.380/.591 with six homers, 13 RBI and an 11:15 BB:K across 19 games since his promotion to Double-A Erie.
ImpactAfter putting up a 1.009 OPS in High-A to open the campaign, the 2020 No. 1 overall pick got pushed up to Double-A, and if the higher level of competition has bothered him, it's tough to notice. In fact, he's already hit more homers in these 19 games with Erie than he did in 31 games with High-A West Michigan. The 21-year-old has played both first and third base at both stops, and while Torkelson isn't known for his defense, the Tigers project to have openings at both positions next year. With his combination of high-end power and an excellent batting eye, Torkelson projects to be an All-Star bat at the major-league level, and it wouldn't be surprising if he makes a major impact as soon as he's called up next year.

Jake Cave - Moving towards rehab assignmentCave (back) could begin a rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul next week, Do-Hyoung Park of MLB.com reports.
ImpactA stress fracture in his back has sidelined Cave since mid-May. He's nearly eligible to return from the 60-day injured list, but he'll likely need a fairly long rehab assignment given the length of his absence.

ImpactGarver has been out since the start of June due to a groin injury which required surgery. He's been ramping up activities recently, catching a bullpen Thursday, but his exact return date remains unclear.

Willi Castro - Back on benchCastro will sit Friday against the Twins.
ImpactCastro hasn't been able to come anywhere close to repeating his excellent .349/.381/.550 line from last season, as he's hitting just .215/.279/.340 on the season. That strong 2020 performance came with a .448 BABIP, so it's no surprise to see he's fallen off, but he's been particularly poor over his last 26 games, posting an OPS of just .527. Jonathan Schoop will be the second baseman Friday.

Robbie Grossman - Returns to lineupGrossman (finger) will bat third and play left field Friday against the Twins.
ImpactGrossman missed Thursday's game with a jammed finger, but the issue evidently wasn't a serious one. He recorded a hit in three straight games prior to the injury, a positive sign after he grabbed just five hits in his previous 14 games.

Ryan Jeffers - Not in Friday's lineupJeffers will sit Friday against the Tigers.
ImpactJeffers homered Thursday, but that was just his fifth hit in his last 11 games. Ben Rortvedt will start behind the plate in his absence.
