Matt Manning - Exits with knee contusionManning was removed from Wednesday's start at Pittsburgh with a left knee contusion.
ImpactManning was hit in the knee by a line drive on the final out of the third inning, which spelled an early end to his start. The 23-year-old was pitching well prior to being hit and allowed one run on four hits with four strikeouts and zero walks in three frames. The Tigers are currently leading, but he'll end up with a no-decision since he didn't last the five required innings. It's unclear if the injury will affect his next turn through the rotation.

Tyler Alexander - Getting skipped in rotationAlexander won't make a star during the Tigers' weekend series with the Rays and isn't expected to rejoin the rotation until next week, Jason Beck of MLB.com reports.
ImpactDetroit is listing Matthew Boyd, Casey Mize and Tarik Skubal as its starters for the series with Tampa Bay, with all three pitchers returning to the mound on five days' rest. The Tigers' decision to skip Alexander's turn in the rotation was foreshadowed by his appearance out of the bullpen in Tuesday's loss to the Pirates, when he tossed a scoreless inning. Alexander should be available in relief for the rest of the week before likely slotting back into the rotation when a fifth starter is next needed Sept. 18 in Tampa Bay.

JT Brubaker - Facing brief shutdownBrubaker (shoulder) will be shut down from throwing for the next 5-to-7 days, Alex Stumpf of DKPittsburghSports.com reports.
ImpactBrubaker landed on the injured list Sunday with right shoulder inflammation and will shutdown for a brief period before potential moving into his rehab. The 27-year-old won't be ready to return from the injured list when first eligible Sept. 15, and there's a very real chance he won't return this year given there will be at most three weeks left in the season once he resumes throwing.
