Nolan Arenado - Ends power drought SaturdayArenado went 1-for-5 with a two-run home run in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Tigers.
ImpactHe took Spencer Turnbull deep in the fifth inning, giving the Cardinals a 5-3 lead that the pitching staff couldn't protect. Arenado snapped a 20-game homer drought in the process, a stretch in which he stumbled to a .190/.238/.215 slash line. The veteran third baseman has reached base safely in six straight games however, going 6-for-24 with three walks and a double in addition to Saturday's home run. He hasn't yet regained his 2022 form, but there could be light at the end of the tunnel.

Dylan Carlson - Swats second homerCarlson went 1-for-4 with a three-run home run in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Tigers.
ImpactJust a few days after connecting on his first homer of 2023, Carlson went yard again with a second-inning shot off Spencer Turnbull. The 24-year-old outfielder is seeing consistent work with Tyler O'Neill (back) on the shelf, and Carlson does have hits in seven of his last nine starts, but on the season he still has a tepid .234/.286/.364 slash line.

Adam Wainwright - No-decision in 2023 debutWainwright didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning loss to the Tigers, giving up four runs on eight hits over five-plus innings. He struck out five.
ImpactActivated from the IL earlier in the day after completing his recovery from a groin injury, the 41-year-old gave St. Louis three scoreless frames in his season debut before beginning to fade, eventually getting pulled after 90 pitches (62 strikes) when he gave up back-to-back hits to lead off the sixth inning. Wainwright was still in position to pick up the win until Detroit tied it up in the seventh. The workload is encouraging, and despite his age he has thrown over 190 innings in each of the last two seasons, so Wainwright isn't expected to need extra rest between starts now that he's healthy. He'll likely take the mound for his second start of 2023 next weekend in Boston.

Akil Baddoo - Swipes third bagBaddoo went 2-for-5 with a double, a run scored, an RBI and a stolen base in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Cardinals.
ImpactHis ground-rule double in the 10th inning brought home Jonathan Schoop for the game-winning run. Baddoo has yet to find consistent success at the plate in the majors this season however, and through 22 games he's slashing .234/.329/.297 with zero homers, three steals, two RBI and nine runs.

Spencer Turnbull - Escapes with no-decisionTurnbull didn't factor into the decision in Saturday's 6-5 extra-inning win over the Cardinals, coughing up five runs on seven hits and a walk over 4.2 innings. He struck out six.
ImpactThe right-hander continues to have a bumpy return from Tommy John surgery. Saturday's six strikeouts did tie Turnbull's season high, but he also served up multiple homers for the first time in seven starts, and he left the game on the hook for his fifth loss before the Tigers tied it up in the seventh inning. Turnbull will carry a 7.26 ERA and 24:15 K:BB through 31 innings into his next outing, which could come at home next weekend against the Mariners.
