Competing for starting job Manager Joe Girardi said Sunday that Gregorius will compete with Bryson Stott for the starting job at shortstop during spring training, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reports. Impact Gregorius struggled last season with a .209/.270/.370 slash line, 13 homers and 54 RB in 103 games, but he remains under contract at $14.5 million for 2022 and is the favorite to start. Stott played 10 games at Triple-A in 2021 but spent most of the year at Double-A Reading, where he had a .849 OPS in 80 contests. However, Stott isn't yet on the 40-man roster, which figures to be a big hurdle for his chances of winning the job. Gregorius posted a .783 OPS over the previous five seasons before his struggles last year, so he'll likely be Philadelphia's Opening Day starter at shortstop with hopes of a rebound campaign.
