Impact Castillo had been removed from the 40-man roster earlier this week following a brief stint with the big club. He could have elected free agency but instead has accepted the outright assignment and will remain in the organization as utility depth.

Impact He'll give up his spot on the 40-man roster and 26-man active roster to right-hander Brock Stewart (shoulder), who was reinstated from the 60-day injured list prior to Wednesday's game against the Phillies. After getting a call-up from Triple-A St. Paul on July 14, Castillo appeared in just four games while going 2-for-6 with a double, two walks, three runs and two RBI.

Summoned from Triple-A The Twins selected Castillo's contract from Triple-A St. Paul on Sunday. He'll start at third base and bat seventh in the Twins' series finale in San Francisco.

Impact Castillo joined the Twins' 26-man active roster as replacement for infielder Jose Miranda, who was placed on the 10-day injured list with a low back strain. Over his 283 plate appearances with St. Paul this season, Castillo slashed a respectable .269/.375/.399 with five home runs and seven stolen bases while seeing action at all four infield spots as well as right field. He'll likely see most of his starts against left-handed pitchers like the Giants' Blake Snell while he's up with the big club.

Impact Minnesota is currently dealing with several injuries in the infield and Castillo is expected to take the 26-man roster spot of the IL-bound Jose Miranda (back). Castillo has just one big-league at-bat in his career and is slashing .269/.375/.399 with five homers and seven stolen bases across 283 games with St. Paul. The 26-year-old should see plenty of work at third base and could mix in at second base or shortstop if needed. The Twins will need to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for Castillo.

Castillo played 124 games for the Diamondbacks' Triple-A affiliate last season and finished with a .313/.431/.410 line, three home runs and 72 RBIs across 556 plate appearances.

Impact The move was made in order to free up a spot on the 40-man roster for the return of Lourdes Gurriel. Castillo received just one plate appearance with Arizona in 2023 but slashed .313/.431/.410 at Triple-A Reno. As a 26-year-old with defensive versatility, Castillo could draw some interest on waivers.

Impact A day after coming up from the minors, Castillo will head right back to Triple-A after going 0-for-1 during Monday's contest. Castillo holds an impressive .892 OPS in Reno this season, so there's a good chance he returns to Arizona later this summer if he continues to produce.

They walked off the field under their own power, but the extent of the injuries were not immediately known. The Diamondbacks later confirmed Perdomo suffered a chest contusion while Castillo is dealing with neck spasms.
