Impact Smith survived the roster cutdown Monday, as he remained on the active roster while Robinson Cano was designated for assignment. While that should give him a safer path to regular starts, he won't start every game, especially not both halves of a doubleheader. Francisco Lindor will rest his legs as the designated hitter in this game, but Smith should return to the lineup for the nightcap.

Signs for $3.95 million for 2022 Smith agreed to a one-year, $3.95 million contract with the Mets on Tuesday to avoid arbitration, Robert Murray of FanSided.com reports.

Impact Smith struggled through 2021 with a .667 OPS in 145 games while playing through a partially torn labrum in his right shoulder in addition groin and wrist issues, but it appears he's back at full strength entering this season, which is his second year of arbitration eligibility.
