Effective against Padres Lauer allowed one earned run on four hits and one walk while striking out six across six innings Wednesday against the Padres. He did not factor into the decision.

Impact Lauer was recalled from Triple-A Nashville prior to this start, and he performed well both from the mound and with his bat. None of the four hits he surrendered went for extra bases, and he also racked up an impressive 14 swinging strikes across 85 total pitches. Lauer also provided the only offense for the Brewers, slugging a solo homer in the third inning. For the season, he now owns a 2.45 ERA with a 22:3 K:BB across 22 innings of work as both a reliever and starter.

Lauer made four appearances (two starts) for Milwaukee earlier in the year and recorded a 2.81 ERA and 1.19 WHIP in 16 innings. Right-hander Josh Lindblom was designated for assignment in a corresponding move.

Impact Lauer surrendered three home runs, which accounted for five of his six earned runs. His line was spared by four unearned runs, which came after Travis Shaw misplaced a ball at third base in the the third inning. Even so, it was a concerning performance for Lauer, who allowed 1.6 HR/9 in 2020. As for this season, Lauer has a 1.64 ERA with a 10:2 K:BB across 11 innings. The Brewers pitching staff is currently decimated by injury, which could result in Lauer receiving another turn through the rotation Sunday in Miami.
