Avoids arbitration Phillips signed a one-year, $1.3 million contract with the Dodgers on Friday to avoid arbitration, Jack Harris of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Impact Phillips was simply dominant in 2022, recording a minuscule 1.14 ERA and 0.76 WHIP through 63 innings out of the bullpen. Though recreating those numbers will be almost impossible for the 28-year-old righty, Phillips will certainly see plenty of action in high-leverage situations next season.

Impact Phillips got the eighth inning with the score tied 4-4 and worked around a two-out single and stolen base to keep the Rockies off the board. Los Angeles put up a pair of runs in the bottom of the frame, reward Phillips with his seventh win. The right-hander continues to thrive as one of the league's most effective bullpen arms -- since June 1, he's posted a minuscule 0.42 ERA and 0.63 WHIP along with a 51:10 K:BB over 45 outings covering 43 innings.

Impact Phillips has been effective all year, and he's strung together five perfect innings in his last five appearances. It's his third streak this year of at least five outings without allowing a baserunner. The right-hander owns a 1.31 ERA, 0.75 WHIP and 56:12 K:BB through 48 innings this year, and he now has two saves to go with 15 holds, a 5-3 record and two blown saves in 48 appearances. Craig Kimbrel pitched Tuesday and Wednesday but didn't feature Thursday, so it's of at least mild intrigue that Phillips got this save opportunity, but it's likely just a move to give Kimbrel an extra day of rest. Prior to Friday, Phillips hadn't appeared since Tuesday.
