Secures win in Game 2 Valdez earned the win in Game 2 of the NLDS against the A's on Tuesday after allowing two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and one walk over seven innings.
Impact The left-hander surrendered solo homers to Khris Davis and Chad Pinder, but he otherwise held Oakland in check. Valdez has been impressive in two playoff outings, giving up two runs on seven hits with a 9:3 K:BB across 12 innings. Valdez figures to take the mound early in the ALCS if the Astros are able to complete the series win over the A's.

Impact Valdez had a breakout regular season and ended up being the story of the wild-card opener. Per Chandler Rome of the Houston Chronicle, Valdez became the first relief pitcher to throw five scoreless innings in a playoff game since Madison Bumgarner in Game 7 of the 2014 World Series. This takes the lefty out of the mix to start during the first round, but should the Astros advance, Valdez will likely start Game 1 or 2 of the best-of-five AL Division Series.

Impact Valdez gave up an RBI double to Kyle Seager in the first inning before settling in to keep the Mariners' bats quiet. After allowing 16 runs in three starts to begin September, he's given up just one run in each of his last two outings. Valdez has a 3.57 ERA, 1.12 WHIP and 76 strikeouts in 70.2 innings this season. Impact Valdez bounced back from a couple shaky outings to dominate the Rangers. He racked up 21 called strikes and 15 swinging strikes across 100 total pitches, matching his season best with 11 punchouts. After allowing three home runs across his past two starts, Valdez limited the Rangers to only one extra-base hit and no long balls. For the season, Valdez now has a 3.82 ERA with a 68:15 K:BB across 63.2 frames. He currently lines up to take his next turn through the rotation Tuesday at Seattle.
