Designated for assignment Reyes was designated for assignment by the Guardians on Saturday.

Impact Reyes' prodigious power had been more than enough to offset his contact issues over his first four years in the league, but everything fell apart for him this season. In 70 games, he hit just .213/.254/.350 with nine homers as his strikeout rate jumped to an untenable 37.1 percent. He lost his spot on the active roster Tuesday and will be removed from the 40-man roster four days later, though his past success could make him an interesting reclamation project for a different organization.

Officially sent to minors Reyes was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday.

Impact Reyes cleaned out his locker after Monday's win over Arizona and has now been officially sent to Triple-A. The 27-year-old has a .213/.254/.350 slash line with nine home runs and 28 RBI in 280 plate appearances this year, so the demotion is well warranted. Oscar Gonzalez (intercostal) was reinstated from the 10-day injured list in a corresponding move.

Impact Reyes isn't known for his speed, but he singled, moved to second on an Andres Gimenez walk, stole third and scored on an Austin Hedges single in the fifth inning. Both of Reyes' steals this season have come in July, a month in which the designated hitter batted .230 (23-for-100) with nine extra-base hits, 12 RBI and 12 runs scored. For the season, he's slashing .214/.254/.351 with nine home runs, 28 RBI, 24 runs scored and nine doubles in 279 plate appearances.
