Collects second homer Greiner went 1-for-5 with a home run, two RBI and two runs scored Tuesday against the Brewers.
Impact Greiner took Orlando Arcia deep in the ninth inning to record his second home run of the season in a blowout win. He's served as the backup catcher in Detroit this season, though with Austin Romine (knee) currently banged up, Greiner's playing time is increasing. Still, Greiner has shown little with the bat, hitting just .118/.211/.353 across 38 plate appearances.

Hits first home run Greiner went 1-for-3 with a walk, a solo home run and a second run scored in Sunday's 7-4 win over Cleveland.
Impact Greiner has done very little offensively this season, but he supplied some punch from the No. 8 spot Sunday. The home run was the first of the season for the backup catcher, who is now batting .130 with a .607 OPS.

Starting Sunday Greiner is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against Cleveland.
Impact Austin Romine heads to the bench after starting the last three games behind the plate. Greiner has not been able to offer the same type of offensive production as Romine, as the former is slashing just .100/.217/.200 in nine games with no home runs and three RBI.

Starting Sunday Greiner is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Sunday's game against Cleveland.
Impact As has been the case for much of the season, Greiner starts following consecutive starts by primary catcher Austin Romine. Detroit will likely keep this rotation moving forward. Greiner hasn't offered much at the plate so far, slashing just .077/.250/.154 with no home runs and three RBI.

Starting Saturday Greiner is starting at catcher and batting eighth in Saturday's game against the Pirates.
Impact Following an 11-inning game Friday night, Austin Romine will head to the bench for Saturday's afternoon tilt, allowing Greiner to enter the lineup. Greiner has appeared in five games so far this season and is still in search of his first hit, as he's gone 0-for-7 with five strikeouts.
AUGUST 8, 2020 • ROTOWIRE
In lineup for first game Sunday Romine is starting at catcher and batting eighth in the first game of a doubleheader Sunday against the Reds.
Impact So far this season, Romine has started two straight days, then gotten the third day off. Saturday was slated to be an off day, but the game was rained out and rolled into Sunday's doubleheader, which will feature two seven-inning games. Romine will likely get the second half of the doubleheader off, with Grayson Greiner entering the lineup.

Secures roster spot Greiner made the Tigers' 30-man Opening Day roster.
Impact As expected, Greiner will be Detroit's backup catcher, while Eric Haase and Jake Rogers work at the team's alternate training site. Greiner doesn't offer much with the bat and is slotted in behind Austin Romine, so he doesn't look like a great fantasy option at this point.

Looks like backup catcher Greiner is expected to serve as the Tigers' backup catcher, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact During spring training, Eric Haase seemed to have the inside track on the backup role to Austin Romine, but Woodbery sounds pretty confident that Greiner will fill that role. He held that job for the Tigers last year, posting a .202/.251/.308 slash line in 58 games. Greiner is unlikely to make a significant fantasy impact in 2020 given his lack of production at the plate.

Roster spot could be vulnerable Haase could potentially lose his spot on the 40-man roster as the Tigers add players before the start of the season, Evan Woodbery of MLive.com reports.
Impact Haase was thought to have the inside track on being the backup catcher during spring training, but Woodbery notes that Grayson Greiner will fill that role. That could put Haase's 40-man spot in jeopardy as the Tigers might need spots for the likes of Jordy Mercer, Jorge Bonifacio and a handful of pitchers. If Haase does get squeezed out of a regular roster spot, he could still end up on the team's three-player taxi squad for road trips as MLB rules stipulate that at least one taxi squad player is a catcher.

Competitive environment crucial for young Tigers

It’s been clear for while that preparing for this baseball season will be different
JULY 4, 2020 • Associated Press
Facing increased competition Greiner is one of six catchers who will be a part of the Tigers' 60-man player pool this season.
Impact Before play was suspended in March, Greiner was battling Eric Haase for the backup catcher role behind Austin Romine. While Greiner and Haase are likely still competing for that job, they are now joined in the 60-player group by Jake Rogers, Brady Policelli and promising rookie Dillon Dingler. The Tigers are unlikely to rush their young backstops into action, but if Greiner scuffles at the plate like he did last year (.202/.251/.308 slash line in 58 games), Detroit may turn to other options.
