Converts save Tuesday Soto allowed a hit and struck out one in a scoreless inning to earn the save in Tuesday's 7-5 win over the Royals.

Impact Soto was able to protect a two-run lead to earn his fifth save in his last six appearances. Since a three-run blown save June 16, the left-hander has given up one run, five hits and three walks while striking out nine over 7.1 innings. He's 18-for-20 in save chances this year, and he's posted a 2.59 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 32:15 K:BB in 31.1 innings overall. Soto's steady pitching keeps him locked in as the Tigers' closer.

Narrowly escapes with save Soto allowed a run on two hits but managed to secure the save in Thursday's 2-1 win over the White Sox. He walked one and struck out one.

Impact Soto was fortunate that he was staked to a two-run lead to begin the ninth inning, because the lefty struggled and allowed his first run to score in his last six appearances. He still managed his 17th save of the season in 19 chances, retiring sluggers Jose Abreu and Eloy Jimenez with two runners in scoring position to end the game. Despite the shaky outing, Soto still has a solid 2.70 ERA this year, and he should have fairly good job security in the closer role moving forward.

Secures save in Game 1 Soto worked around two walks to pitch a scoreless ninth inning and earn the save in Game 1 of Monday's doubleheader against the Guardians.

Impact Working with a 4-1 lead, Soto made things interesting by allowing the tying run to come to the plate. However, the lefty induced an Owen Miller groundout to end the game. Soto has been mostly effective this year with 16 saves in 18 opportunities to go along with a 2.48 ERA, 1.14 WHIP and 30 strikeouts across 29 innings. The Tigers will likely get some calls on their top reliever leading up to the trade deadline.

Impact It wasn't a save situation, but Soto was still called on to shut the door, and he looked sharp. Since allowing three runs and blowing a save back on June 16, the lefty has now logged consecutive scoreless appearances. Soto has his ups and downs, though he's mostly been solid with a 2.77 ERA and 13 saves in 15 opportunities this season.

Impact Soto struggled in his last appearance Thursday, allowing three earned runs and blowing his second save chance of the year. The lefty still has been mostly solid with a 2.88 ERA, 1.24 WHIP and 13 saves this season. His strikeouts are down, however, as he's currently posting an 8.6 K/9, down from 10.7 last year and 11.3 in 2020. Soto may be prone to more regular bad outings unless he can start missing more bats, though he should remain fairly secure in his role as Detroit's closer.

Impact Soto loaded the bases and then saw them cleared when Ezequiel Duran hit a three-run triple to put the Rangers ahead. Prior to Thursday, Soto had converted his last nine save chances. This was only the third time all year he's allowed multiple runs, and he still has a solid 3.00 ERA with a 1.29 WHIP and 23:12 K:BB across 24 innings. The southpaw is 13-for-15 in save chances, so his role as closer should be fairly stable unless he endures an extended slump.
